This can’t be shared enough. He noted that unlike traditional contamination concerns involving naked DNA, the DNA here is packaged inside lipid nanoparticles. This changes how it can interact with cells. Standard qPCR testing used by regulators is known to significantly underestimate the true levels. Moderna’s own CEO has published patents warning that residual DNA can be oncogenic and that qPCR can be off by as much as 100-fold depending on which part of the plasmid is measured. Regulatory agencies have been using single-region qPCR protocols that can miss large portions of the contamination. When documents were obtained through FOIA from Australia’s TGA, large sections were redacted, but what remained showed they were only looking at one narrow part of the plasmid.
