MUSLIM REFORMERS REBUKE WAJAHAT ALI’S ELECTION WARNING AND ASK: IS THIS "JIHAD FIRST”? When I heard flamethrower Wajahat Ali warning that “the fire will rise” and people will be “radicalized” if Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed loses his Michigan Senate bid, I knew Muslim reformers who courageously reject such rhetoric of political violence. And they also reject his divisive sectarianism and racism. I put together a video clip of some of the "best" of Wajahat's talking points, where a guest calls Hakeem Jeffries a "monkey" funded by Israel lobbyists, where Wajahat stokes caricatures of "brown people," mocks "white" people and ridicules everyones but the in-group of anti-Israel ideologues he platforms. In.a series of interviews late last night, Muslim reformers told me that Wajahat's rhetoric echoes divisive “Jihad First” intimidation tactics used before elections in the Middle East. WAJAHAT ALI: 'THE FIRE WILL RISE' I've seen it before at our hometown mosque in Morgantown, W.V., where fundamentalists at the mosque who supported the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt didn't want women in the main prayer hall. They intimidated the community to vote for them or risk havoc they threatened to unleash. (You can watch what my family experienced in a fascinating documentary, the MOSQUE IN MORGANTOWN, that follows my family's struggle for women's rights. WATCH IT HERE: READ our new Fox News Digital article: Yesterday, Wajahat wrote: “If, God forbid, Abdul loses… The fire will rise. It’s over. People will be radicalized against corporate, pro-Israel Dems. There will be a reckoning.” Today, Wajahat accused critics of “Islamophobia and anti-Arab bigotry.” DALIA ZIADA: LANGUAGE OF 'INTIMIDATION' Egyptian Muslim reformer Dalia Ziada, a researcher at ISGAP, knows the kind of intimidation I saw at my mosque in Morgantown and told me: “What Wajahat Ali said on the eve of elections is actually the language we’ve seen Islamists use before elections in countries in the Middle East, including Egypt.” Ziada continued: “The threat is usually: If you don’t choose us, this will lead to radicalization, and this will lead to violence.” “Maybe we need to expect troubles coming up.” SORAYA DEEN: NO 'LICENSE FOR RADICALIZATION' Muslim reform activist and attorney Soraya Deen Soraya M. Deen, MA said Ali’s words shouldn't be dismissed as an ordinary social-media outburst: “His words are deeply troubling.” Deen added: “His warning that ‘the fire will rise,’ that people will be ‘radicalized,’ and that a ‘reckoning’ is coming deserves serious scrutiny.” “Losing an election is not a license for radicalization.” Deen’s conclusion: “We must reject intimidation, political extremism and the politics of perpetual grievance.” The issue, reformers say, is not whether Wajahat belongs to an Islamist organization but whether his language resembles tactics used to pressure voters through warnings of unrest. DR. ZUHDI JASSER: 'JIHAD FIRST' M. Zuhdi Jasser, founder of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy, described the rhetoric as reflecting a “Jihad First” lens: “Wajahat Ali, like Abdul El-Sayed, proves yet again their decades of anti-American Islamist obsession…” Jasser said the “red-green ‘Jihad First’ filter” is “threatening fire and radicalization—simply an unmooring of their own dreams to live the jihad of Islamism and destroy the American dream and everything for which it stands.” Jasser added: “Any honest Muslim who reads that post will see ‘Jihad First’ and everyone else be damned, including patriotic Muslims.” NETWORK OF 70 GROUPS & INFLUENCERS A Fox News Digital review identified 70 Muslim groups and influencers in El-Sayed’s political orbit through endorsements, campaign-listed support, voter mobilization or public amplification. Not every group has the same formal relationship with the campaign. The network includes, among others: ☪️ CAIR Action 🇵🇸 Americans for Justice in Palestine Action ☪️ Emgage Action 🇵🇸 US Campaign for Palestinian Rights 🇧🇩 Bangladeshi Americans for Political Progress ☪️ Muslims for Abdul 🇾🇪 Yemeni American Michigan Democratic Caucus 🇧🇩 Michigan Bangladeshi American Democratic Caucus ☪️ MPower Action 🐕 Hasan Piker 🇵🇸 Linda Sarsour 🇸🇴 Rep. Ilhan Omar 🇵🇸 Rep. Rashida Tlaib. The broader coalition shares overlapping priorities: opposition to U.S. support for Israel, pressure for an arms embargo or cease-fire, criticism of Democratic moderates and mobilization of Muslim and progressive voters.
