This is the instructor Sheldon McFarlane, a PINJARRA skydiving instructor, won a Gold Cross at the Royal Life Saving Bravery Awards after saving his student who had a seizure at 9000 feet. WA Skydiving Academy's Sheldon McFarlane, 41, saved student, Christopher, who had a seizure during a solo training dive in March. Mr McFarlane said he didn’t understand what was happening at first but knew he had to pull Christopher’s parachute chord. “In that situation you need to keep a clear head and act,” he said. Mr McFarlane has been jumping for more than 20 years and said he had never dealt with a situation like it before. After receiving the award Mr McFarlane said he felt “shocked” as everyone in the room at the awards ceremony on Monday morning were extremely worthy of winning. The awards identify and reward people in the community who have taken extraordinary actions to save another person’s life. Royal Life Saving Society WA’s chief Peter Leaversuch said each award recipient displayed exceptional courage, empathy and initiative by applying lifesaving skills in emergency situations and sometimes at risk to themselves. “The bravery and commitment of these individuals in saving lives is an excellent example to all Western Australians and deserves our highest recognition," he said. “It sends the strongest message possible of the importance of obtaining lifesaving skills.”

In 2008, American stunt performer Travis Pastrana jumps out of a plane without a parachute and took skydiving to whole new level!!!!

Watching this from a warm bed. Great thing

In 1999, parachutist Jan Davis fell to her death at Yosemite's El Capitan after he parachute failed to open. She leaped from the top of 3,200-foot El Capitan in a protest organized in response to the death of a man who parachuted off the same peak and drowned in the river below while trying to flee rangers.

Wooow! Travis Rice doing the impossible leap in snowboarding.

In parachute rigs, there is a safety device that automatically deploy the chute if the rig reaches a pre-determined altitude close to the Ground. So you should survive even though you Are unconncious.

In the early days of the company in the 1970s, FedEx was struggling financially. They were running out of money fast and were unable to cover fuel costs, risking a potential shutdown. Facing a severe cash-flow crisis, Smith took a huge gamble. Legend has it that he took the last $5,000 the company had in the bank and went to Las Vegas to play blackjack. His plan was to turn that $5,000 into $24,000, which would be enough to cover the fuel costs for a few more days of operations. Smith managed to win $27,000, allowing FedEx to stay afloat a bit longer. This additional runway bought them the time needed to secure a crucial investment that kept the company alive. The story became a symbol of Smith's unwavering determination and risk-taking to keep his company alive.

Great Save !

In this case, Christopher's seizure mid-air was a completely unexpected and dangerous situation, but Sheldon's training and experience allowed him to act quickly and decisively to save Christopher's life.

That's absolutely mind-blowing! Watching this footage reminded me of the incredible bravery and quick thinking required in such high-risk sports. Kudos to Sheldon McFarlane for his heroism!
