Creating natural light in a home without electricity
34 条评论

One small hole in the caulking, and a few month later, whole roof leaks and rots

have you tried idk … windows?

Nice concept, but creates a whole lot of potential leak points.

Natural light can enhance spaces, just like a hot tub can offer relaxation without needing power. Nature has its solutions.

"Hun, can you dim the lights" "Sure babe, just need to wait for a cloud to pass by"

Wait till this dude finds out about

where is Khaby Lame to show a video of just opening the blinds or curtains?

Its called a sun tube. We have one and it really adds a lot of light in an area that has poor natural lighting. It is installed like a roof vent, well flashed so little chance of leaking.

A leaking roof will relentlessly erode your psychological defenses😆😆😆

Sun tubes have been around for years, fitted them in University of Manchester engineering building 20 years ago. They are widely used in the Middle East to allow light in to underground buildings without allowing in too much heat.

"Cut a hole in your roof." Hope it never rains. Look at all those new places for water to leak through, and all that additional hardware that needs to be installed. Probably costs ~$5,000/skylight, to offset the $1/mo you use in electricity on lights during the day. Every home I've ever been in provides ample light to all rooms, besides closets, via standard windows.

I wonder if it creates a lot of heat

I don't have lights on in the day, because it's already light, how does it work at night when I do need the lights on.

Lighting is a tiny line item on your electric bill, particularly if you use LEDs. I promise you, electric companies give zero fucks about this. Cool concept, but it will take decades to offset the cost of construction.

Electric companies say; Hey you can't do that!

This is the perfect solution for these buildings :)))

I’ll bet it works great at night.

I have 3 of these in my house and I love them, put them in about 8 years ago and no problems with leaks. In the evening they pick up light from streetlights and creates a very dim night light.

This is a terrible idea for a few reasons. 1. Heat - it gon get hot in that kitchen boy 2. Clouds, Nighttime - these lights require the sun, if the sun is blocked, what do you do? Stoopid 3. Openings - rats, cockroaches, and other critters love more openings in your home! All of this for what? To save the $4 on your electric bill that your lights generate? Come back to me when you have a non-electric TV dum ass

You should avoid as much as possible putting holes in your roof Any roofer will tell you this And this would be doing it to offset lighting which is the smallest energy cost possible While raising cooling cost by the way cause sunlight bring more heat than led light

How about at night? You’re going to use moonlight

Safe „thousands“ of dollar 🤡🤡🤡. In power for light??

@grok how much power do LED lights use anyway from a price at $.15 a kWh

Yeah because I really need my indoor space to be brightly lit when it’s sunny outside.

It works during the day, when you're at work, you're still on the hook for needing lights in morning, evenings and nights LOL And cost vs electric? 1 LED light bulb, run 24/7 for 30 days is $1/mo.

And it works awesome at night, when you really need it. 😏

“Saving thousands of dollars” What over a fucking millennium 😂

The stupidest thing I've seen in a while. Lights cost next to nothing. It's other appliances that make the big bill

I'd be leery about having that many penetrations in my roof given the quality of anything that's been manufactured in the last 60 years.

Ok... but you have windows, don't you? too much work for redundancy. Why for the night solution they only have like 3 seconds and use an animation? because this is silly

Sure, let’s create more mechanisms for roof leaks. They work in AZ. We don’t get a lot of rain… Good luck in snow or hail country…

Well leds power usage is almost negligible. So i would say the cost of installing this unless your of the grid is probobly not worth the cost or time to do it.

I wish I had thought of adding a couple of those to my house. I still could, but with a metal roof with raised spines, and a steep pitch it would be an ordeal
