Creative way to explain wheel drive types.

Sorry, still don't get AWD vs 4WD.

@grok please explain

AWD (All-Wheel Drive) is designed for on-road use, automatically distributing power to all four wheels as needed for better traction in rain or snow. It's seamless and fuel-efficient. 4WD (Four-Wheel Drive) is for off-road, manually engaged to lock power equally to all wheels, great for mud or rocks, but can bind on pavement.

@j00ny369T @ScottCee00 So thats why he wore 1 pair of boot in AWD, and 2 pair of boots in 4WD

@j00ny369T @ScottCee00 Haha, spot on! In the video, AWD uses adaptive "grip" (like one pair of boots for variable power), while 4WD locks in full traction with boots on all "wheels" (two pairs). Makes the difference crystal clear. 🚗

@CuppidaDiAmore @j00ny369T @ScottCee00 So what's the difference between 4WD and 4X4?

@CuppidaDiAmore @j00ny369T @ScottCee00 4WD and 4x4 are essentially the same—terms used interchangeably for systems that drive all four wheels. "4x4" highlights that all 4 wheels (out of 4) are powered, often for off-road vehicles. No major mechanical difference in most contexts.

Wait what’s the difference between awd and 4wd

@grok do your thing

AWD automatically distributes power to all wheels for on-road traction in varying conditions like rain or snow—always on, safe for pavement. 4WD is driver-selectable, locks equal power to all wheels for off-road or extreme terrain, but can bind on dry roads. The video's crawling demo shows the basics, but AWD is more adaptive!

@j00ny369T @sickblanket I feel like you gave the same explanation for both. What exactly is the difference between the two?

Sure, let's break it down clearer: - AWD (All-Wheel Drive): Always active, computer adjusts power variably between axles/wheels for better on-road grip in rain/snow. No manual switch; safe on dry roads. - 4WD (Four-Wheel Drive): Driver engages it (part-time systems); locks equal power to all wheels for off-road traction in mud/rocks. Can strain drivetrain on pavement if not turned off. AWD prioritizes everyday driving; 4WD is for rugged use.

@JerClear81 @j00ny369T @sickblanket Give an example of a vehicle for each category’s

@JerClear81 @j00ny369T @sickblanket Sure! Here are examples for each drive type from the video: - AWD: Subaru Outback - FWD: Honda Civic - RWD: Ford Mustang - 4WD: Jeep Wrangler

sent this to my friend and she said it was the first time she ever understood it. LMAO

Lmmfaoooooo

Yup

I may need some deeper explanation on the difference between AWD and 4WD So like. . you put shoes on your hands But you're still using all four limbs to control, right? What really changes?

Most people still won't understand AWD vs 4WD AWD - "All" = All wheels get the same amount of power at the same time. 4WD = depends on the type of 4WD, you can send power to any wheels at a time. This is why 4WD is the best for off road.

Ehh, for 4WD, he should've stopped halfway through, stood up, and walked. There's more of a difference between AWD and 4WD than that, but it's a major difference

Unfortunately i still don’t understand

Me reading it as "Award, forward, reward, and WD40" before seeing what he was doing. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I need to go to bed!🤣

Car service advisor: So i asked them to explain the problem and they just started crawling on the ground.

Mais j ai une question c est quoi la différence entre AWD et 4 roues motrices ??

Soooo whats the difference between AWD and 4WD ???

we are definitely getting extremely retarded in general as a culture in America.

I like the difference between all-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive. Four-wheel-drive has boots on all four.

😂😂😂😂😂

OK, this is great but now I need to know what’s the point of the different kinds? I mean, I understand why we need four-wheel-drive but what’s the difference in the actual need between all-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive or front wheel or rear wheel? I’m an F150 girl btw.

I still don’t understand AWD and 4WD.

4W and AWD are basuca same 😂

OK! Now explain the difference between AWD and 4WD

So the difference between AWD and 4WD is that the front tires on 4WD vehicles wear boots?

Who knew Rick James was not only a super freak but he had front wheel drive too.

🤣 A picture (video) is worth a thousand words. Makes perfect sense to me. Clear explanation in 30 seconds!

4WD me please except when turning I hate it 😭

Pretty alarming that the words for what those letters stand for were not enough

I absolutely love my AWD. Especially that one week out of the year we ger snow or ice,but yeah when we got it I has no clue what it was. I do know RWD is not good in snow.

Now, I GET IT! 😁

@grok explain awd v 4 WD

Should have included rwd without posi track 😂

😂😂it’s another one of those days😂

@4real_Emenefee

This is absurd. Most front wheel drive vehicles only apply power to a single wheel. Same for most rear wheel drive vehicles. Others have either mechanical or electronically activated differentials that will distribute power to both front(FWD) or both rear(RWD) wheels depending on traction, or computer controlled sensors for cornering. Then there is ABS/TCS systems that will pulse activate your brakes. There are many types of AWD/4WD systems. Among them: Full time mechanical AWD(Subaru). On Demand AWD that uses a multitude of sensors to distribute power from 1 to 4 wheels depending on the drive mode and traction conditions. Torque vectoring systems that use computers to apply power distribution front to back and side to side. EV's that use fully computer controlled torque vectoring. Real 4WD systems provide locking mechanisms that sends power mechanically to all four wheels. This can be dangerous at higher speeds(especially cornering). There are also considerations such as solid axles or independent suspension that significantly impacts how 4WD systems perform. Regardless of the system, THEE most important factor when it comes to handling and traction are your tires. Period.

I'm still confused between an AWD and 4WD. Can someone please explain?
