The family of 12-year-old Khimberly Zavaleta Chuquipa, who allegedly passed away after being bullied at school, has filed a lawsuit against the L.A. Unified School District. According to her family, Khimberly stood up for her sister after she was being bullied According to the family’s lawsuit, Khimberly was struck with a water bottle before later suffering a brain injury, ABC 7 reported. Her mother says that at dismissal, a taller student approached and began pushing Khimberly. She says her daughter responded by asking, “What’s your problem with me? Let’s go to the principal’s office and talk about it,” but the student ignored her. “My daughter goes and pulls her away, so they don't hit her sister, and that's when [Khimberly] gets hit in the head.” Attorney Robert Glassman says the school district failed to respond to earlier reports of bullying. He also claims the same students had bullied other children.
