Crews have cleared 100-tons of snow from intersections in Garfield alone. Our contractors are using front loaders & other equipment to haul snow out of neighborhoods & off of streets after being plowed. Sixty Public Works crews & contractors remain on the roads.

We are suspending refuse collection through the end of the week so Public Works crews can focus on snow. Garbage & recycling pick up trucks are plowing, residential snow is on curbs, & we are expecting low wind chills. Collection will resume as normal on Monday, February 2nd.

Crews are in full swing pretreating the roads. When the snow hits, we’ll have 50 trucks ready to go, and we are prepared to make quick adjustments. Avoid parking on snow routes if possible. On hill routes, park on the odd-numbered side from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday & Wednesday.

Our snow plow crews have been working hard from Lake Tahoe to as low as Foresthill to keep our roads clear. Today, we were out at the Alta/Dutch Flat area capturing one of our Placer County snow plows in action! ❄️🚜 When the snow is cold, heavy and wet like it’s been this week, plowing can be especially challenging, and it can take multiple passes to fully clear the road. No matter the conditions, our crews are working around the clock to Keep Placer Moving. If you see them out there, give them plenty of space and a wave! 👋

If you missed it, DPW Interim Director Anthony Crispino gave an update about the District Snow Team. Crews are working around the clock to keep District roads safe and accessible. • The snow team is addressing over 4000 road miles in the District • Roads are 85–90% navigable by car • Ice hauling operations are underway at the RFK site • New heavy equipment, including Bobcats, is being deployed • Crews are clearing curb corners and intersections to break apart hardened ice, ensuring safer crosswalks and curb-to-curb access Thank you for your patience as we continue addressing the impact of repeated plowing and freezing temperatures.
