There's lots of difference in commentary. Back then commentators was not afraid to voice their opinion but nowadays commentators thinks 100 times before commenting it's all because of social media. PR agency of players makes sure that commentators will not voice opinions freely

People’s attention spans’ reduced combined with an abundance of viewing competition. We had 5 channels back then. People want more instant gratification. Hence the success of the T20 “sugar hit”. Now even T20 has faded. But true cricket fans still love one day cricket
