I’m livid. A rare endangered species of whale was on the shores of Israel just a few days ago, and Israel even named it. Today it reached Gaza, and it took them only 20 minutes to pull it out of the water and kill it. Why kill an innocent animal?

This morning, I took advantage of the calm conditions and flew my drone over the Jupiter Inlet. The ocean was glass calm, the water was crystal clear, and visibility from the air was incredible. While flying, I spotted a manta ray gracefully gliding just outside the inlet. A few moments later, I found a spotted eagle ray cruising through the same area, making for another amazing morning on the water. After the flight, I shared the manta ray footage with a scientist friend who studies manta rays. She recognized this individual from previous sightings and shared several fascinating details about its history and identification that I include in this video. I hope you enjoy this incredible glimpse of two of Florida's most majestic rays!

She's tiny, blue, and just adorable! A newly identified octopus species, small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, was discovered near Darwin Island in the Galápagos Islands. The little creature was first spotted in 2015 by researchers aboard a submersible in waters nearly 5,800 feet deep. Until now, the species was among the estimated 91% of potential marine species still unknown to humans, a figure from a 2011 study published in PLoS Biology. Some species, like the Bethany Beach firefly, are already considered critically endangered, while the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is proposing to list the firefly as endangered for the first time.

The derelict elver pass on the River Fergus, Ennis, Co. Clare, this week. This elver pass was never maintained and quickly fell into disrepair. This is one of Inland Fisheries Ireland’s (IFI) fish counters. It is difficult to explain why IFI continues to maintain the fish counter here but has allowed the elver pass to fall into disrepair. The European eel is a critically endangered species, and fish passage problems at weirs and dams are among the key reasons for its decline. This fish pass was installed as part of a damaging flood scheme and was intended to help lampreys, but lampreys cannot use it either. This location is within the Lower River Shannon Special Area of Conservation.

Notably, we captured many more videos of wolves, bears, deer, snowshoes hares, and more but condensed it here to the best footage captured. Of course, our primary goal of setting this camera was to get footage of the wolves in the area, and that was a resounding success as we captured many observations of wolves in the Mithrandir Pack.

What a spot for a trail camera! We put this camera out on a small footpath this winter for the first time just out of curiosity. We do a lot of trial and error to find good spots that wolves like to use often. The little trail is pretty close to the intersection of 3 different pack territories and we figured it might be a good place…and it was. We captured more footage of wolves and other animals on this camera that are not in this video. This video is just the highlights. Most of the other videos are at night. Notably, for every camera like this that gets great footage, we probably have 4 or 5 that are duds…and since they are duds, we don’t share that footage online!
