Tom Cruise is my super early pick for the Oscar for Best Actor. I obviously haven’t seen Digger yet but it appears as if the stars are beginning to align behind Cruise: he’s marketing the Hell out of this film far in advance of its release (he was everywhere this summer, including the World Cup), his older films are being rereleased in theaters throughout the year, and the entire industry appears to be behind Cruise. As you all know, there’s a difference between who I think will win & who I think should win the Oscar. The “should win” portion comes after I see every film. But for now? The “will win” pick points to Cruise.

Went on a cruise event earlier this week with 300 other homocons. We all enjoyed the opportunity to meet one another and have conversations about commonly held thoughts and beliefs about politics and society. A couple of large group events were held, which were interesting and well-attended. And of course, everyone had a lot of fun! 😊 The coordinator of the cruise, Right of Center Events, is coordinating another similar cruise for next April. I encourage you to sign up if you think you would be interested. Even had a chance to meet a few Twitter followers!

Then his administration laid off 2,400 CDC workers, including all the civilian staff in the Vessel Sanitation Program, the exact team responsible for inspecting cruise ships and responding to outbreaks. This country is being run like it was bought out by private equity stripped for parts to be sold off in liquidation.

Interviewed here on CNN regarding the #AndesVirus outbreak on the MV Hondius cruise ship. I bring up a slightly different perspective on the role of the cruise ship. The cruise itself likely helped us detect that an outbreak was happening at all because it allows for a clear pattern detection in a confined environment. When you have a pathogen with a long incubation period, once people start traveling, if the secondary cases are not close in space and time to the index case, it can become much harder to make the initial diagnosis and subsequent diagnoses. Furthermore, I am also surprised that there is so much variability on the approach that different countries and states are taking to quarantine. There needs to be uniformity, leaning toward the most conservative approach.
