Kyle Shanahan on Curtis Robinson: “He's really worked to get better each year, and he's a very talented guy. I think when he came here, he hadn't played in a system like this for a while. It took him a little bit to kind of pick that up, but we so believed in him as a guy and his talent level that after a year, you could start to see it clicking. He became a big asset on special teams, and last year was the first time that we really believed he was going to step in there, really contribute at linebacker at a high level. It was actually kind of a sad story, but it was about 20 minutes before he tours ACL, was the first time that I told him he'd be starting that week. It was his first start in his career, and he had earned it. We were going to move him ahead of Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles at the time. We talked, but we were ‘just friends,’ and as time went by, we got to know each other more. He would ask me out, and it started becoming something more. Then, one day, he told me he liked me and felt the same way. I was so excited, so hopeful. His birthday was coming up, and there was going to be Pal Norte, a festival here. I spent months saving money to take him to the festival. I even did raffles and everything, because I was 13 or 14 years old. When his birthday finally came, I had prepared a surprise for him, organized everything, and planned a special moment. When I gave him the gift, he saw what it was and got kind of weird. Then he told me, ‘Oh, it’s just that I have a family commitment,’ or whatever. Something like that. But he had been saying for months that he wanted to go, so it didn’t make any sense. I said, ‘Okay, fine, nothing happened.’ Since I had the extra tickets, I told a friend, ‘This is your opportunity, come with me.’ She was going to the festival too, so we went together. We were about to leave when, guess who I ran into at the festival? Him. With someone else, all cuddled up, and I think they were holding hands. And the worst part? Do you know who it was? What he does is he grabs the back of his head and he just starts tugging on it. The idea was he would pull it as far as he could, and then we would take over stretching the image, making it appear to be distorting in a way that it physically couldn’t. Then basically when I shot Vince I just kept urging him to pull harder, and harder, and harder until finally the final take he just pulled it until the makeup just ripped. We said, ‘Okay, we got it.’ That’s what’s in the show because it’s really tugging on his face the maximum it could be done, and then we just extended that. Helped by a little bit of editing we were able to put a ridiculously large CG creature inside of a human sized body, and we’re not seeing it all at one time, you kind of get away with the fact that, well maybe he was in there he was just hunched up.” – Eric Brevig, Men In Black visual effects supervisor.

Denzel Washington’s epic monologue towards the end of Training Day was largely improvised on set. Director Antoine Fuqua was so blown away by his performance, he says he thinks he "forgot to yell cut”. He explains… “That’s Denzel. He was just in his zone. I mean, that was one of those moment...people talk about AI. Those are the moments where you go...it's a great tool. It's gonna be a great tool, I think...but the emotion, and the moment that an actor can bring - you can't predict that. That's something that's just inside of Denzel. And when that came out, I was just like - I hope I got it. I just turned to my operator - who was shaking- I looked over at the guy - I was like, “please tell me you got that.” Because that was the take. That was it. There was no other take - I mean, how do you tell an actor like that, that that wasn't good enough? …He walked over to me, and he just had this look in his eyes. I was like, “you good?” He said, “you good?” I said, “Yeah…” Some of that was in the script, but he flipped it the way he did it. "Putting cases on all you." He kind of added some things in there. And then he just went into a whole other zone with the whole King Kong thing- with Pelican Bay - Denzel started that. That was Denzel. That was him, man. He just kind of lit up, and I think I forgot to yell cut. I was just watching it, because everybody started walking away, and I'm just watching him, and then he lights a cigarette - and he's talking - and I'm just watching him. I think at some point he probably looked at me like, you going to cut? And I'm like, “oh yeah, yeah, cut.” He was still in it. That's the thing with Denzel. He explains: “What's strange is that it's become this sort of iconic line, and it was all done as a joke. And that was the thing, I played the scene…. And I had a relationship with Luc. Luc Besson was kind of mad in a way — I mean, we were shooting on film. He would say to me, "OK, do the scene again, but now do it as Robert De Niro." Or do it as... And he would shoot it for kicks, and his archive. So we had a fun kind of relationship… I said to Luke, "I just want to do one more, let me do one more."
