CS Murkomen: There has been a specific pattern of coup plotters targeting certain political leaders whom they think are not giving them political support. These are political terrorists who want to instill fear on MPs who don’t support their political ideologies. What we witnessed yesterday was not about justice...

My dear brother, thank you very much for your comment. You do not seem to fully understand your country’s political history and what actually happened in November 2017. I have written extensively explaining these things. My support of the coup was not emotional, it was based on the logical political realities at that time. I supported the coup because there was no other political pathway available to Zimbabweans in November 2017. The coup was not just a ZANUPF affair; it was a ZANUPF and MDC affair. The planning started as far back as 2014. As I have explained so many times before, Emmerson Mnangagwa talked to Morgan Tsvangirai about the coup, and the emissary was Nelson Chamisa. You can ask him whether I am lying. These matters are on record, and many people have those records and know exactly what happened. As you can hear in this video, it was the only game in town politically because the opposition leaders endorsed it. So, who did you want me to support? Or did you want me to just oppose without an alternative pathway? If the ruling party and its surrogates were embarking on a coup to remove their president, and the political alternative, the opposition, was also part of that plan and action to remove Robert Mugabe, what did you want me to do? Maybe you are also unaware, it was Nelson Chamisa’s lawyer who went to court and got the court to say that the coup was legal. If you read widely on Zimbabwean current affairs, you would have seen those court records. So, why are you “upset” with me, a mere journalist, for supporting the coup, but not with the opposition political actors, Morgan Tsvangirai and Nelson Chamisa, for being part of it? Is my name so important that, if I had not supported the coup, it would not have happened? The answer is an unequivocal NO. My name is not that important. I command no political structures. The MDC structures that marched in support of the coup were led by Morgan Tsvangirai and his deputy, Nelson Chamisa. So, I do not understand why you are so surprised why I personally supported the coup when it was a national affair that attracted support across party lines. If you want to question support for the coup, apply the same standard to everyone who supported it. You see, my brother, the biggest problem we have in Zimbabwe, which I have flagged so many times, is that people support political personalities and do not want to hold them to account for their actions. Instead, they turn to non-political actors like myself and want to hold us to account for our decisions. I have no problem with that. I am able to respond, as I have just done, with facts and settle the question. But I wish you could do the same with the political actors who were actually involved in the coup and are still alive. Ask them, “Why did you support the coup? And why did you get it endorsed as legal if it was such a bad thing?” Ask them to account for their own actions, instead of asking a journalist to account for things he had no control over. You cannot demand accountability from others while shielding your favourite politicians from the same scrutiny.
