He outlined that Jamaica Public Service (JPS) originally projected that full restoration could take until late 2026, which the Government rejected. This led to the Government providing a US$150 million loan to JPS so they could bring in overseas workers, equipment, and materials to restore power faster. Despite criticism, the decision has delivered results. JPS now reports 97.5% of customers have electricity, and fewer than 10,000 people are expected to remain without power by the end of February. Without this intervention, many Jamaicans would likely still be waiting for electricity into 2027. The Government remains committed to working with JPS until 100% of households are restored.
