Current development progress of the world: I didn’t expect that converting a single map into a system that assigns different maps based on the number of participants would take a full two weeks. If everything goes smoothly, it should be completed in March. #VRChat #EvilFallSet

A map from 1531 reveals something that could rewrite all of human history. “The map maker tells us he uncovered material previously hidden in darkness … ” If you’ve never heard of the Orontius Finaeus map, this will blow your mind: Graham Hancock: “The Orontius Finaeus map shows Antarctica.” “This map was drawn in 1531.” “The problem is that our civilization didn’t discover Antarctica until 1820.” This map is a key piece of evidence that Hancock raises to support his theory of a lost, ancient civilization. “When I say a lost civilization, I do not mean a civilization like ours.” “I think they were very different civilization from ours.” “But they had conquered a number of peaks.” “One of those peaks was navigation and ocean seafaring.” “Hence the survival of maps, which show the world as it looked during the Ice Age.” “Another was astronomy.” “Another really important breakthrough evidenced by the ancient maps … is accurate relative longitudes.” “Particularly when we know that the map was based on older source maps.” “Had somebody found Antarctica long before we did and mapped it with extremely accurate relative longitudes?” “Our civilization didn’t crack the longitude problem until the mid-18th century.” “We didn’t get that until 1750, 1760s, there abouts, with Harrison’s chronometer.” “So finding good longitudes on very ancient maps is another puzzle that I don’t think archeology solved.” Graham Hancock Steven Bartlett

Threadguy explains how he lost $1,000,000 on a single trade and the two mistakes that caused it "The most money I've ever lost on a single trade is a million dollars on GOAT. I did two things I no longer do. Number one was buying increased size on the way down. Number two was convincing myself it was gonna change the world. That has been the single reason I've lost money in large amounts. Now I just take a nibble and add aggressively on the way up with tight stops. If it goes against me I'm out and I can reenter later."

The design tells the story. If comparing prices is harder than it should be, consumers make different choices. And sometimes that friction isn’t a bug in the system. It’s a feature of the system.⁣ ⁣

Ray Dalio, founder of the world's largest hedge fund, on how he turned a trading idea into a system. this is the whole loop, in his words: "every time I would make a decision, I would go back and study: if I made that decision in these circumstances, how would it have worked in the past? and I would know the track record of that decision." then it becomes a rule: "I would program it into the computer... rather than just the one I would see, I'd dump in all of them, where do they exist anywhere in the world?" and the constraint most people skip: "the rules should be timeless and universal. because if it didn't work in a long period of time, I would need to understand why." a trading idea in your head is a feeling. tested across every instance in history, it's a system.

Ex-marine Ken O'Keefe drops a barrage of truth bombs for 90 seconds straight. 🔥 "The whole system is based on financial fraud, which effectively takes the power that we have and it gives it to a tiny group of individuals who are running the world through... the infinite supply of money that we have allowed them to take." "And with that money... they have bought everything and everyone who can be bought." "If I was in charge of the world... you can bet damn sure that's what I would do." "I wouldn't allow anyone in a position of power who wasn't completely compromised."

Matt Ryan was asked if #Falcons QB Kirk Cousins should be BENCHED 👀: “I mean, it’s two bad weeks, two disappointing losses. They’re still in first place in the division. To me I don’t see them making a decision like that unless it goes in free fall. It would have to be, in my opinion, a couple more weeks.” (via Pushing The Pile)

ICE is preparing to deploy a Palantir-powered surveillance tool that maps neighborhoods and assigns “deportation scores” to what it calls “target-rich environments,” using data fed from HHS. The system reportedly tracks real individuals across the U.S., plotting them on a map and assigning a confidence score that estimates how likely someone is to be at a specific address. Similar to Google Maps, but instead of restaurants, the pins represent potential deportation targets.

Urbano Monte's world atlas, a map created 430 years ago in 1587, was recently restored for public access. A map with so much detail that it would be almost perfect if it weren't for the beings and some mythological lands. Although it was portrayed as a #FlatEarth, they converted it into the shape of a Globe. On this map you can clearly find #Tartary and the kingdoms that Great Tartary founded in America.

Sam Altman says Trump and Xi would win the Nobel Peace Prize for a one-page AI agreement “I think Presidents Trump and Xi would get the Nobel Peace Prize together if they could agree on something that should be easy to agree to. And it would be wonderful.” “I think that clearly the two countries are going to compete in lots of ways, and this is going to be important socioeconomically, geopolitically. But they should be able to agree that no one should be taking a certain level of risk with the development process of this.” “And even if just the US and China could agree on some shared standards and testing for development of this technology, I think that'd be a wonderful accomplishment that the two of them can deliver.” “I don’t think this is hard. This is like a one page document.”

Preview of the map for reworked cultures. It shows the spread in a more organic way, based on the followers of that culture (work in progress). More info about changes to the cultures later! #worldbox

I asked Bret a question that a lot of people are thinking about lately since he's as equipped as anyone in the world to answer: "Does a system of record have a place in the world if nobody logs into it?"

Peter Thiel: Elon is super impressive and unique because he's innovating in the world of atoms. “I think Elon's super impressive because he's done something outside of the IT space. We're in a world that's dominated by IT, by innovation in the world of bits, much less in the world of atoms. And I think that is what makes Elon uniquely charismatic because we do have a sense that it would be good if we were doing a little bit more in atoms and not everything in the world of bits.” This Week in Startups/YouTube, March 16, 2015

Reporter: A number of Republicans are calling on you to apologize for that Obama post. Is that something you’re going to do? Trump: No, I didn’t make a mistake. I look at thousands of things. I looked at the beginning of it. It was fine. I guess it was a takeoff on the Lion King. A lot of people were covered. If they would have looked, they would have seen it and probably they would have had the sense to take it down.

Top architect of Australian immigration system openly states that Australians would not vote for current migration system if they had the chance to vote on it democratically. WALKER: “Do you think if that system was put to the Australian public as a proposition they would have voted for it or supported it politically?” PARKINSON: “I don’t think they were they would have at all.” Full exchange: WALKER: So we’ve kind of drifted into this almost guest worker system as you mentioned earlier. Yeah, there about 2.3 give or take 2.3 million people here at the moment on temporary visas with work rights. Do you think if that system was put to the Australian public as a proposition they would have voted for it or supported it politically? PARKINSON: I don’t think they were they would have at all. Um and indeed we say in the report that uh we’ve ended up with a sort of a group of permanent temporaries almost a quasi guest worker system without anybody consciously sitting down to decide that we should do this — and that if you ask the Australian public, um, as a review we thought it would be highly unlikely that they would have agreed to that. Now, we should be careful that 2.3 million, they’re not all people who would fall into the guest worker group. And there’s only a, you know, sort of 100,000 maybe 200,000 of those who’d fall into the permanently temporary underclass group. He then explains that 700,000 people in this class are New Zealand citizens, about 800,000 are international students, another 200,000 are working holiday makers, etc. They wouldn’t be counted towards NOM figures because they aren’t present in Australia for 12 months out of 16, etc.
