Cursor engineer lauren reveals the original inspiration for Grok Bot was her internal Slack bot called Benny that would automatically fix bug reports for Cursor while she slept: "I built this bot called Benny. I'm a fairly lazy person, and we were getting so many bug reports for Cursor,...

@poteto best products keep starting as someone's internal hack for a chore they hated. Benny to Grok Bot is the whole arc. the unlock is not the model, it is giving the bot a persistent identity and a queue so the work happens without you asking.

This is the part I think gets really interesting. One engineer builds Benny because she’s tired of waking up to a pile of bug reports. Then suddenly the bot is fixing things overnight and she’s just reviewing the work in the morning. Now imagine every team inside a company has a few of these running. That’s going to be incredibly useful, but also pretty chaotic without some way to control what they can touch, what rules they follow, and what actually gets committed. That’s a big part of why we’re building Marrow. The bots are coming either way. We just want to make sure companies can actually manage them.

@poteto So do you wake-up in the morning, find you are out of tokens, and just go back to bed?

@poteto Love the lazy engineer origin story here. We actually dug into how Grok Bot handles that 24/7 work angle here:

@poteto the 'internal Slack bot fixed bugs while she slept' is the real origin story. every other AI agent launch dresses up a demo of work someone already automated for themselves. Slack bots in 2021 grew into Cursor-in-2026 because the founders were the power users.

@poteto Building a bot that fixes bugs while you sleep and then productizing the same pattern is the cleanest origin story.

Grok Bot is officially available in Tesla vehicles! I had early access for my Grok Bot team to be integrated directly inside my Cybertruck with the help of the SpaceXAI and Cursor team. And this is truly one of those things that’s hard to fully understand the power of it until you actually lived with it. It’s the same Grok Voice experience you already know in your Tesla… no separate app is needed. When you’re signed into Grok, your Grok Bots are right there and you can talk directly with all of them with just your voice. So today, Tesla FSD was driving me. I said, “Hey Grok.” Then I talked to my CEO bot like I would talk to someone working for me. I told it what I wanted for dinner tonight: 1/ Blueberries 2/ Strawberries 3/ Ribeye 4/ Shrimp 5/ And taco night for my family of four. That was it. I didn’t sit there searching for every single ingredient. I didn’t open Amazon and start building a cart item by item. I just explained what I wanted. Then, my CEO bot routed the job. My Chef bot figured out what we needed for taco night. Then my Amazon Cart Builder bot started putting the cart together and choosing the best items based on my purchase history. And while all of that was happening… FSD drove me to the gym and parked itself. I went inside and worked out. My bots kept working. And by the time I was finished, the cart was ready for me. I opened it. Looked everything over. Then I just clicked Order. Grok Bot + Tesla FSD completely removed all the manual work in between that would have wasted part of my day researching building a grocery list, getting the Amazon cart ready, and manually driving to my destination. And THAT was the wow moment for me… I just talked to Grok. FSD drove. I worked out. My Grok Bot team handled the busy work. When I finished the gym, the cart was simply just waiting for my approval. And all I had to do was click order. (btw you can make your Grok Bot place the order automatically as well, but I’m super picky with my food so mine are specifically built so I review it at the end). With this technology, you’re no longer opening five different apps and doing every tiny step yourself. You just tell your team what you want with your voice. They go work on it. You go live your life. The biggest upgrade here is that Grok Bot + Tesla FSD is giving us back the one thing we can never make more of… TIME. Grok Bot handles the work. Tesla FSD handles the drive. I get my time back. This is really the future… I’m glad people will be able to try out Grok Bot integrated with their Teslas today… this is truly life-changing technology.

BREAKING: SpaceXAI has added a new guide called “Grok Bot 101” It explains how to create a personal AI teammate in just 10 to 15 minutes, teach it real workflows, connect apps, and build teams of specialized bots that continue working in the cloud even after you close your laptop. Here is the full guide in simple terms: • What is Grok Bot Grok Bot is an AI agent with its own persistent computer in the cloud. It has a desktop, files, terminal, browser, and apps. It can browse the web, use software, write and run code, and complete tasks just like someone using a computer. You can access the same computer from your phone or desktop. When needed, Grok Bot can hand control back to you for a CAPTCHA, 2FA, or secure login. • Creating a bot Give the bot a name, title, and detailed instructions. You can explain the workflow through chat or record yourself completing the task. Once trained, the bot can repeat that workflow whenever needed. It can also use MCP servers, plugins, skills, and connected services such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, and Slack. • Three ways to use Grok Bot Send it a message in chat. Create schedules or triggers, such as monitoring a Slack thread or GitHub PR. Allow bots to message and activate other bots. • Permissions and safety You can write rules in normal language explaining what the bot can and cannot do. A separate review agent checks proposed actions and can allow them, block them, or ask you for approval. Allow and block lists provide additional control, while the work runs inside an isolated environment. One important detail: if you log into a website with one bot, other bots using that shared cloud computer can also access it. • Multi-bot teams You can create specialist bots for different jobs and let them work together. One bot can ask another for help, several bots can work inside a group chat, and a scheduled routine can move a task through multiple specialists until the work is finished. • Personal CRM The author created a bot that turned the 800 to 900 people he follows on X into a private Notion CRM containing public profile information. It helps him find and reconnect with people when traveling. • Arnold, the fitness bot He replaced a complicated fitness app with a Grok Bot strength-training coach named Arnold. The bot uses MCP servers, plugins, and skills while requiring less maintenance. Its behavior can be updated simply by chatting with it. • Building software Grok Bot gathers information from Slack, Notion, GitHub, documentation, and other sources. It then creates a clean prompt and sends it to a specialized Cursor cloud agent that builds the software. Grok Bot handles the planning and coordination, while the coding agent handles the actual build. • Searching company knowledge Grok Bot can search across codebases, Slack conversations, Notion pages, GitHub, and internal documents to answer product or company questions. This helps people find information faster and reduces the need to interrupt coworkers. • The biggest takeaway Instead of repeatedly building scripts or complicated apps, you can describe a workflow to Grok Bot, improve it through chat, reuse it, and let it continue working in the cloud. Grok Bot is not just another chatbot. It is a real AI teammate with a computer that can use tools, coordinate specialists, and get actual work done. The future of work is becoming incredibly exciting.
