The density of impacts suggests these aircraft did not make it home but the P-40 was a tough bird, here 87th FS pilot Gordon R. Mcmoody poses with three 20mm cannon shell impacts suffered by his Warhawk over Italy in 1944, he returned safely in spite of the damage.

Idea of sending fighter units valuable to🇩🇪to Africa was not very wise. Instead of sending🇩🇪units to Africa,it would have been better to give 🇮🇹 Bf-109F and FW-190A in 1941,with the possibility of servicing and production in🇮🇹.I am of the opinion that🇮🇹were not bad pilots
