After the announcement of the latest iPad’s with their highly capable processors, it felt like a great time to experiment with making an interactive display for our walls. A quick sketch and pre-order later and I was on my way. 👇

There are some obvious constraints when using an iPad as a display such as its size and fixed aspect ratio. For the latter, I’ll likely stick with generative art projects designed to size to whatever window they are displayed on. Adding a mat to the frame helps with the former.👇

Strangely, browsers for iPadOS don’t support full screen mode w/o a navigation bar, so I’m using Kiosker Pro - a paid browser designed for kiosk displays. It’s menu bar auto-hides very cleanly, but is a bit challenging to pull up from the edge of screen with a mat on top (which is inset ~1/8” bc of the iPads curved corners). 👇

Because of the exposed mat with no glazing, I expect it to get dirty with use, especially given some touch features needed along its edges as stated above. I may end up keeping a stylus or Apple Pencil nearby to help with this. 👇

Using Kiosker’s bookmark feature, I added bookmarks to the live view links of individual pieces I might want to display. 👇

Once I decide on a permanent home for the display, I will install a concealed charging cable in the wall for a clean installation and constant charge. I will also be adding a hanging cleat in both orientations for a more flexible hanging solution. 👇

So there you have it - sometimes when the right display tech doesn’t exist yet, we improvise. Very excited to have the full capabilities (interactivity, audio, motion, etc) of many of my favorite projects at my fingertips in a neat package.

@artblocks_io @brtmoments @kiosker_io @Apple @jeffgdavis @wawaa_studio @newrafael @mpkoz want to see a dark version – night mode. black frame and black passe-partout

@artblocks_io @brtmoments @kiosker_io @Apple @jeffgdavis @wawaa_studio @newrafael @mpkoz I considered painting it black with a black mat… I have another frame built so maybe I’ll try with that one, though would be pretty contrasty with our bright home

@jeffgdavis @wawaa_studio @kimasendorf @newrafael @mpkoz Wanna try @whitewallsapp?
