Custom pixel-art-pont-and-click-engine prototype. Testing an idea I had for projection based 3D modeling tool to make real 3D environments that remain pixel perfect and in still images look like drawings. All of the artwork created in engine #adventuregame

few features: -Pixel / 3D hybrid environments -Real time lighting on characters -shadow projections from characters on environment -hand drawn everything

Very cool! You're in for a very, very deep rabbit hole too.

Oh yeah this one goes in deep. A chasm!

Looks great Jussi!

Thanks!

If I show this to my artist he's going to keep on bugging me until we can make a game with it. Amazing tech!

Oh I would love for you to make a game using this engine! It would be so cool 🤩

We would definitely love to give it a try if you ever decide to release it!

Absolutely! Lets see once I am in a place where I feel it is more or less MVP and has very few missing features. You can take it for a spin then.

Who drew the characters? I'd love to have that kind of skill.

I drew the characters and the environment. On my Mac Book Pro trackpad :D without any sketches or a reference. Just did not care! As quick as possible. Super dirty. Turns out you can rescue quite horrible stuff with polish :D

Oh and UI too. And the dating happened in the pixel art draw canvas I built for the engine. Inside the engine. No need for any additional software.

Now mod Monkey Island 2! 🐒

I wonder how hard it would be to port old games to something like this? I hear AI is pretty good at reverse engineering source code 🤔

It gets easier every year..

But this is amazing! Are you planning to release it publicly, or is it just a test?

I am interested in releasing it publicly. But for now this is just a test. I will shelve this after a while and once I have the time, I will make a full game with it. But I am not opposed to other people making a games with it in the meantime.

Honestly, I’d be interested in trying it out. I think it has incredible potential.

I am pretty happy with it too!

amazing, looks and works pretty good. I love the shadows and rim light you get. and all in perfect pixel.

Yep! I am not having any sub pixel nonsense!

If you add some medium tones dithering you got it!

Ah you are right. Dithering would need a screen space solution. That is something I should look into! It would look superb.

Thats really cool. I am writing a point-and-click engine too but way more simple! (And 2D of course)

I consider mine super simple too, but it might actually be super complex already :D With built in animation tools ane everything :D

Really cool! What language and libraries did you use?

The engine is programmed in TypeScript and uses pixi.js. The whole setup runs in a browser, but the idea is to make it output traditional executables for steam etc.

Could also ofc be a fully online service. Where people could build and play games from a user generated library of titles. Great for learning node based programming or Lua and simple 3D modeling and animation etc. A minimalist thing sort of.

i love the pixel-perfect surface, but the accidental-click path is the real review; that is where i learn what the player actually needs.

Wow: I imagine the opening scene of Monkey Island 2 like this :)

Would be great!

Delicious!

yum-yum!

Very nice..Hope you release the Engine. Now go and make "Echoes Of Somewhere" in this engine.. LOVE THAT GAME..

:D That game I will finish in Unity eventually!

It has gone too far! Or if I end up making a complete redo without gen AI, then I will ofxt use this engine!

Love it. Great job.

Thanks!

Looks dope!

Thanks!

Looks pretty interesting ! Do you have indoors environments ? I'd like to see how your engine solves the stores or indoors navigation, are the transition seamless or does it have a noticeable loading time ?

the transitions are quite seamless. Load times are very short. I have not yet done any indoor scenes. but there should not be issues with those.

Totally awesome!! Love the lighting 🤩

Thanks!!

😍

🙏🏻

Nice!

Thanks!

This looks 🔥🔥🔥

Thanks! 🔥
