Sometimes having a record means it’s hard to find a job, and when you have kids you literally take what you can get to keep them safe, housed, and fed. Nykia Hamilton went viral in July when someone posted a video of her running a Burger King by herself because everybody quit and didn’t want to work. So after weeks of opening, and closing by herself, she was late to work due to child care responsibilities and they fired her. This is how a corporation like Burger King repays their loyal hardworking employees who sacrifice their time and their kids to give them their all. She setup a GoFundMe to help with expenses and set a goal for $70k. I understand with corporations, the profit margin and investors are who are important to them, but would it hurt them to show a little compassion. Anyone with kids will tell you life happens. I’m glad she’s able to raise the money she needs and I pray for her future, I hope she finds a better job that will pay her well enough so she can spend time with her children.

I encountered a homeless woman on the streets who appeared almost demonic in her distress, walking on all fours and clearly in severe mental crisis. The explosion of drugs and untreated mental illness on our streets has turned what was once considered a manageable issue into a full-blown humanitarian disaster. What makes this even more troubling is that funding is at an all-time high, yet the system still hasn’t found an effective way to truly help these individuals. Some argue that bodily autonomy means people have the right to live this way if they choose. I believe that when someone is in such obvious crisis, we have a responsibility to intervene with meaningful, effective care rather than simply accept this level of human suffering as a legitimate expression of choice.

All the dead bodies lying around the village had the choice to abandon their homes the very moment the demons broke in to slaughter them. Instead, they fought back with whatever weapons or tools they had, knowing full well that their death was almost certain. The fact that dying in their homeland meant more to them than fleeing for their lives says everything about what Frieren was trying to express in this arc. It’s plain and simple... Home is not a place you run away from, it’s a place you return to. It’s where you lay down your life beside the people you love, defending what matters most against those who have no right to be there. Those villagers chose to protect their homes, their memories, and their way of life rather than become refugees in a world that had already taken so much from them. This part of the story hit me so hard and made me cry for so many reasons. It carries an incredible weight, the quiet, stubborn humanity of people who would rather die free on their own soil than survive by abandoning everything that made their lives meaningful.
