Google inks historic US deal to buy Gen IV nuclear power for data centers | Neetika Walter Kairos Power’s Hermes 2 reactor will deliver 50 MW of carbon-free power by 2030, with TVA channeling the energy to Google’s data centers. The Hermes 2 project also carries symbolic weight, reviving Oak Ridge’s historic role as a hub for nuclear innovation. Google has steadily expanded its presence in the Tennessee Valley over the past decade and has worked closely with TVA to add clean energy to the region. With artificial intelligence workloads and cloud services driving demand for reliable electricity, the company is now betting on advanced nuclear as part of its strategy to secure 24/7 carbon-free energy. The U.S. grid is under growing strain as AI, electrification, and population growth push power demand to new highs. Traditional sources of clean power, such as wind and solar, cannot always deliver around the clock, while large nuclear plants face long timelines and high costs. Small and modular nuclear reactors offer a potential solution, providing carbon-free capacity with more flexibility. Trump push gives nuclear fresh momentum The move comes as the Trump administration has accelerated support for advanced nuclear. In May, the White House signed executive orders to streamline licensing for micro-reactors and small modular reactors, to triple or even quadruple U.S. nuclear output by mid-century. Federal agencies have also launched pilot projects to test more than a dozen small reactors, many on federal land to avoid permitting delays. These steps have helped renew investor interest in nuclear technology and created room for private-sector deals like Google’s. Energy startups such as Oklo have seen their shares climb after securing government partnerships, underscoring the link between policy reform and commercial appetite. Google’s nuclear partnership reflects this broader momentum. The deal highlights how next-generation technologies can find a pathway to market by combining utility-scale, regulatory support, and private-sector demand. For Oak Ridge, the project could deliver economic benefits alongside energy breakthroughs. Kairos Power plans to train a new generation of nuclear workers in partnership with the University of Tennessee and other institutions. The Hermes 2 plant will also anchor efforts to re-establish the city as a center of nuclear innovation. The price was to open the doors to Coca-Cola, Pepsi and Monsanto, cut farmer subsidies, and remain dependent on Western tech. Russia faced even worse. Under Western-guided "shock therapy," factories were sold for pennies, hyperinflation hit 2,500%, and poverty exploded. But instead of surrendering, both countries began pushing back. India conducted nuclear tests in 1998 despite heavy sanctions, banned Monsanto’s GM seeds, blocked foreign retail chains to protect local businesses, and built its own GPS system (IRNSS). Later, it created Aadhaar — now the world’s largest digital identity platform serving 1.3 billion people. Russia saved key assets like Rosneft, rebuilt Gazprom and Rosneft as pillars of sovereignty, repaid $22 billion in IMF debt by 2005, and maintained its nuclear shield. Together, they grew stronger. RUSSIA is dominating the WORLD NUCLEAR ICEBREAKING FLEET ! The NS Ural (Russian: атомный ледокол «Урал») stands as one of Russia's and World's most advanced nuclear-powered icebreakers, embodying the country's determination to dominate Arctic shipping routes. As the third vessel in the Project 22220 (also known as LK-60Ya or Arktika-class) series, Ural represents a new generation of versatile, high-powered icebreakers designed for year-round operations in harsh polar conditions. Operated by FSUE Atomflot under Rosatom, it plays a vital role in escorting cargo along the Northern Sea Route (NSR), supporting Russia's energy exports and strategic Arctic ambitions. Construction of Ural began at the Baltic Shipyard in Saint Petersburg, with the keel laid on July 25, 2016. The ship launched on May 25, 2019, and underwent sea trials in October 2022 before official commissioning on November 22, 2022, during a flag-raising ceremony. Minor delays occurred due to steam turbine issues and a small fire during outfitting, but the vessel entered service swiftly. It is named after the Ural Mountains and registered in Murmansk. As of 2026, Ural operates alongside sisters Arktika, Sibir, and Yakutia, with more vessels like Chukotka under construction. Ural measures approximately 173 meters (568 feet) in length, with a beam of 34 meters and a displacement of up to 33,540 tons at full load. Its innovative dual-draft design allows a minimum draught of 8.6 meters for shallow river mouths and coastal waters, extending to 10.5 meters for deep-sea operations. This versatility enables the icebreaker to navigate both the open Arctic Ocean and Siberian river estuaries like the Ob and Yenisei. The hull features a reinforced ice-class structure capable of breaking through ice up to 2.8–3 meters thick at a continuous speed of about 2 knots, while achieving 22 knots in open water. A crew of around 75 operates the vessel, which has an endurance of several months for provisions. At the heart of Ural's power are two RITM-200 pressurized water reactors, each providing 175 MWt of thermal capacity (delivering about 30 MW to the propellers per reactor). This fourth-generation nuclear propulsion system offers exceptional reliability, with fuel lasting up to seven years between refuelings. The reactors drive three shaft lines with fixed-pitch propellers, granting immense icebreaking capability while minimizing environmental impact compared to older diesel-electric vessels. The design prioritizes efficiency, safety, and reduced emissions, aligning with modern nuclear maritime standards. Since entering service, Ural has actively supported NSR operations. It has escorted large container ships and bulk carriers through icy waters in the East Siberian and Chukchi Seas, and in early 2025, it carved a 170-nautical-mile ice channel in the Kara Sea at an average speed of 6.7 knots. In winter 2025–2026, Russia deployed all eight of its nuclear icebreakers—including Ural—simultaneously for the first time to maintain export routes amid heavy ice, highlighting the vessel's operational importance for LNG and hydrocarbon shipments. Ural strengthens Russia's Arctic strategy by facilitating faster, safer navigation along the NSR, a route that shortens transit times between Europe and Asia. Amid growing international interest in the Arctic, including from China, these icebreakers secure commercial and geopolitical advantages. With Project 22220 expanding to seven vessels, Ural exemplifies Russia's engineering prowess and long-term commitment to polar supremacy. Its combination of raw power, adaptability, and nuclear endurance makes it a cornerstone of the modern Russian icebreaker fleet, ensuring reliable access to the resources and passages of the frozen north.

🚨🇷🇺WEST IN RAGE: Russia's 3D printing Breakthrough Goes Global Rosatom (Russia's state nuclear corporation) shipped an industrial 3D printer to India — its first export to a far-abroad market. The RusBeam 2800, an electron-beam printer for large metal parts, now produces aerospace components. Russian additive manufacturing is outgrowing import substitution and starting to compete globally. Rostec (Russia's state industrial conglomerate) and Rosatom created the country's first certified reference sample of metal powder — titanium alloy PT-3V. Labs can now calibrate powder characteristics against a single standard: fewer defects, faster certification, a common quality language. It's no coincidence that Rosatom and Rostec lead this push. Nuclear reactors and jet engines demand absolute precision — exactly why the PT-3V reference sample matters. It gives every lab a single benchmark to check powders against, ensuring the hundredth printed part matches the first. Without it, 3D printing stays guesswork. With it, the technology becomes a trusted industrial process. Russian aviation has crossed that threshold: Rostec uses 3D-printed parts in PD-14 and PD-8 engines and has certified the first additively manufactured hot-section component for a serial aircraft engine — a combustor swirler inside the PD-14 powering the MC-21. These announcements are two sides of the same coin. Russia is assembling a complete chain: equipment, materials, software, standards, certification. After 2022, severed supply chains turned 3D printing from a trend into industrial survival. When a critical imported part is unavailable, printing it domestically shifts from convenience to necessity. The market hit 22.3 billion rubles in 2025. Hot-section parts face extreme temperatures and vibration, so certification means the technology has passed its toughest exam. The Kozyrev Doctrine – Why India Turned Away From Russia and Went West. And Why India needs to be Wary of Jumping Back to Moscow. 1. If hell is run by an Indian, there is a special place in it for Andrei Kozyrev, the Russian foreign minister from 1990 to 1996. 2. When the Soviet Union collapsed, Kozyrev became the new foreign minister of Russia, and supported close ties with the West. He may have been a CIA mole because he single handedly destroyed the decades old Indo-Soviet partnership. 3. As per the Kozyrev Doctrine, the new Russia would no longer give special importance to India but instead would treat India and Pakistan as equals. This Russian foreign policy seemed like it was drafted in Washington DC. 4. The new Russian Doctrine took things too far. When Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao sent his emissary Mani Dixit to the Kremlin to urgently get spare parts for India's armed forces (which depended on Russia for 70% of their requirements), Kozyrev refused to meet him and instead sent a junior diplomat. No guarantees were given about spares. 5. If Pakistan or China had attacked India at that time, India's armed forces would have run out of spares in a week. This was not only a violation of legal contracts but a major betrayal that India's leadership took very seriously. 6. So Pakistan, the country that was responsible for the deaths of 15,000 Soviet lives during the Afghanistan War, was equated with India, a time tested friend. 7. Kozyrev relegated India to a secondary role. And India's leadership was forced to look West. 8. It was under Kozyrev's watch that India diversified away from Russia. Narasimha Rao had no choice but to diversify India's security links as its most crucial erstwhile ally continued to labour in confusion and anxiety over its economic and political status, with no clear signal regarding its foreign policy preferences. 9. Kozyrev currently lives in Miami where he has acquired lots of wealth and a nice tan. He slams Putin to the delight of his American backers (or perhaps CIA handlers). If Kozyrev is indeed an American asset then US intelligence agents deserve Congressional medals for pulling India away from the Russian sphere. 10. Following the Russian betrayal, India splurged billions of dollars on American weapons such as 12 C-130J Super Hercules aircraft ($2 billion), eight P-8I long-range maritime patrol aircraft ($2.1 billion), 10 C-17 Globemaster-III strategic airlift aircraft ($4.1 billion), and 145 ultralight M177 howitzers ($438 million), and 22 Apache attack helicopters plus 15 Chinook heavy-lift choppers ($2.5 billion). 11. The Kremlin has two types of diplomats. The old guard which values Russia's relationship with India and the rest of the world. Vladimir Putin belongs to this group which is currently powerful. 12. The second is the "Look West" group which seeks to build the unviable "Vancouver to Vladivostok Common European Family." Because let's face it, the Anglo Saxon looks down upon the Slav, especially the Russian, as Untermensch - racially inferior. 13. Putin and the old guard know this. The younger Russians are not as aware or do not care about their place on the geopolitical chessboard. All they care about is Starbucks. Many young Russians live in delusion that because they are white the West will welcome them as the last bulwark against the Asian hordes. 14. So the words of Russian diplomat Roman Babushkin hold little value. He is right that unlike the West, Moscow will never impose sanctions against India. But that is true only as long as Putin is around. The next generation of Russian leaders will once again sell their country to the Americans - just like Yeltsin and Kozyrev did. 15. Modi's Multilateralism is the best policy for India. Work with everybody. But do not trust anybody. The US is a future adversary - absorb as much technology as possible from it before the inevitable clash. Russia is unreliable - use it as a source of cheap oil and minerals.
