🇺🇸 Everyone is watching Iran for the next market crash, but the real danger is that investors are recreating the leverage, speculation, and blind confidence that led to the Great Depression. Gareth Soloway says that financial markets have become so addicted to easy money, leverage, and central bank rescues that they're now far more dangerous than the war. Investors have spent years learning exactly the wrong lesson. Every correction, panic, and sell-off has been followed by another rally to new highs. An entire generation of investors now believes one thing: Just buy the dip. They've never lived through a prolonged bear market, and they've never experienced a 1929-style collapse. Many weren't even investing during the dot-com crash or the 2008 financial crisis. As far as they're concerned, markets only move in one direction over time. That psychology worries Gareth far more than the headlines coming out of the Middle East, and he pointed to South Korea as a warning. A handful of AI-related stocks became so dominant that investors piled into leveraged ETFs, convinced the gains would never end. When sentiment finally turned, leverage amplified the selling just as aggressively as it had amplified the rally, and the result was a brutal collapse. His concern is that America has built the same structure, just on a vastly larger scale. Every recession that should have cleared excesses from the system was met with lower interest rates, more borrowing, and more money printing. Instead of allowing the economy to heal naturally, policymakers kept injecting another dose of stimulus, and it worked... until it didn't. But Gareth doesn't think the market will collapse tomorrow. In fact, he believes policymakers still have tools that could keep the system going for several more years. But every intervention adds more debt, leverage, speculation, and makes the eventual adjustment even more violent. This statement by Riad Salame did not get enough attention yesterday, and the interviewer didn’t even realize what was being said. RS is saying that the old dollar deposits in the Lebanese banking system are originally LBP deposits that were converted to USD at some point in the chain. Therefore, the solution for these dollars is “different” than it would be for “fresh” dollar deposits brought in from outside Lebanon. In other words, his solution is that all of the old dollar deposits should be returned to their owners in full but… in their original value of 1500 LBP to USD, and not in real dollars as they weren’t real dollars to begin with. That was BDL’s plan all along. They convinced people over the last 20 years that by converting their deposit to USD in the bank (or accepting others USD deposit for payments etc), they now had dollars and were safe. The objective was to convince people not to convert their LBP into real dollars (eg real dollar bills or transfers outside Lebanon), which would have caused the currency collapse years earlier. So they pulled a psychological trick on them by giving them dollar IOUs that they never intended to honor. Add decades of accrued interest on top of that and the debt became gigantic. It is not practical today to distinguish between the two sources of dollar deposits for the most part.

The 500 JMPD Trainee Candidates from the 2025/2026 intake have been in limbo from the 1st of January 2026 which was the expected date to start training at college. “We have done a recruitment process within the six months period and now we are not getting a solution. The HOD of public safety together with his team told the Mayor, MMC of Safety, and concerned political parties that we have not completed the process which is false the vetting process was the last stage and was done in December. On the 7th of April we had a meeting at Martindale with the JMPD Management including the HOD and Chief of Police together with the HR of the City of Johannesburg, and the chief Mr Jaca was given a platform to address us but he said he had nothing to say after when his fellow workers has addressed us We the candidates went to Martindale numerous times but we were given different stories each time we went there. The PA in the office of the MMC also told us that her child did not make it in the 5km and was eliminated. Therefore they are pushing the agenda that the post should be re-advertised.” The Outcomes: - They mentioned that the six months has lapsed and to continue with the post they'll be breaking the rules - Next week, we will receive a clear public announcement about the post but they added that they don't promise anything since the six months has lapsed. - They further said it is not our problem that the post has expired. While the intention behind this shift—to promote equity and expand access—may be well-meaning, the reality is that it has replaced a system based on effort, interest, and demonstrated commitment with one largely dependent on chance and luck. At the same time, the core issue remains unresolved: there are far more qualified applicants than available seats. Instead of addressing this shortage through expansion and investment, the state has chosen to redistribute opportunity through a system that many perceive as arbitrary and discouraging. Enoch Burke was dismissed from Wilson’s Hospital School after he refused to call a student by a new name and the “they” pronoun. He has since spent over 580 days in Mountjoy Prison. At the Appeal Hearing on 13 December 2025, Enoch Burke was subjected to an Appeal Panel that blocked cross-examination of witnesses from the school, privately solicited documentation from the school in advance of the hearing and abruptly ended the hearing without closing submissions and during the attempted cross-examination of Principal Niamh McShane. One panel member, Geraldine O’Brien, stated at the outset of the hearing: “If I were instructed by my Principal to call a child whatever, I have to implement that instruction, I don’t make the instruction”. The Appeal Hearing took place over a single day on 13 December 2025 and concluded that evening. The result was expected within 10 school days of the hearing, as per Department of Education regulations. The High Court was informed by the Counsel for the school that the decision would be delivered by 9 January 2026. Enoch Burke raised serious concerns about the conduct of the Appeal Hearing and as a result, the Appeal Panel made a decision on 2 January 2026 to re-open the hearing. However, in a subsequent High Court affidavit, the Chairperson of the Appeal Panel Seán Ó Longáin swore on oath that the Appeal Panel had always intended to reconvene the hearing, and that the decision to re-open the hearing was in no way connected to the concerns Enoch Burke had raised. These were demonstrably false statements and were shown to be such by Enoch Burke. We believe that it is as a result of these lies, and other serious matters brought to light in these proceedings, that these resignations have been tendered.
