I've witnessed this a couple of times. My concern is that not every claim of speaking in tongues today is genuine. The fact that tongues can be "any language" is sometimes used as a shield against discernment. Paul addressed this in 1 Corinthians 14:27–28: if tongues are spoken publicly, there should be an interpreter. If there isn't, the speaker should keep silent in the assembly. Having been around people whose gift I genuinely believe is authentic, I've learned that not everything presented as tongues is necessarily so. Discernment is just as biblical as the gifts themselves.
