I’ve had someone offer me $40 for backing into my headlamp of my Mitsubishi Evolution. It was parked in front of my friend’s house and we were on his porch waiting for him to get ready when his neighbor backed out of the drive and his tow hitch cracked my headlamp. I told him that headlamp was way more than $40 and I hurried up and snapped some pics of him and the truck along with the plate. He then got mad and hurried up and left, I ended up making a police report for it. The police ended up catching the man who fled the scene and turns out he didn’t have insurance, that’s why he was in a hurry to leave, and he didn’t have a license. They ended up arresting the man for that. The neighbor later tried to confront us for reporting his friend for the hit and run, my friend’s mom overheard what was going on and came out to yell at him back and threatened to call the cops. After that the man always gave us dirty looks when we were there, I also never park on the street anymore either for that same reason. This man’s girl rear ended somebody will merging onto the road, her boyfriend jumps out to offer the guy $40-60 dollars for the paint damage. Like that will even cover that. This father had never missed any of his son’s baseball games in his life. He had to miss this tournament because his best friend was getting married and he was a groomsman. He woke up at 3:30AM and drove 100 MPH that Sunday morning to try to and at least make the Sunday games after missing the Saturdays games. And, of course this was the only tournament all year that his son’s team lost their first game on Sunday, so he didn't make it in time because the first game was at 8 and there was no second game. When he pulled up his son saw him and he ran full speed and jumped into his arms and wouldn’t let go. Dad said his son told him, “daddy, you can’t ever miss again. I love you so much. Not having you with me this weekend made me feel so empty, please never miss again, I'm so thankful your my daddy!” 🥹 His wife filmed that video. ❤️ I remember those days well. Speeding like a bat out of hell to make it on time. I have always made my kid’s games and activities. It’s what I live for. And the few times I had to miss, I felt like I let them down. 🫎 🪿 The sky had just turned light when my baby brother, Kenji the Mooseweiler, decided to wake up the household by holding his stuffed goose in his mouth and honking it. Over and over. And Over. I opened one sleepy eye to see him standing there proudly honking away like he was performing the National Anthem at a sporting event. I could have happily slept until much closer to breakfast time, but nooooo. Because the oversized Pork Roast's honking woke humans, he was taken outside for a ridiculously early potty break. And humans seem to think when one dog needs to go out, all dogs need to go out. The humans think wrong. I did not need to go out. What I needed was to resume my dream of staying at a luxury resort where I was in the pool doggy paddling my way to the swim up cheese bar. 🧀 Instead I was expected to get up and head outside to keep Kenji company while he did his morning business. I reluctantly rose from my super comfy bed and did the obligatory big stretch, which was NOT EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED!! Then I headed outside where the honker was waiting for me. I went directly into the potty area, squatted and did my business promptly like a good girl. Kenji did 17 laps sniffing the yard, tripped over the pool and nearly fell in it, and then finally lifted a leg on a tree. Another 17 laps and he squatted his moose caboose and did the other part of his business. It was obvious this wasn't an urgent potty situation and that we both could have continued our peaceful slumbers for at least another hour. Because he was taking so long the human had to come outside and do a welfare check. Once she determined we were both present and still alive, she thought it would be fun to work on teaching baby rottie Kenji to give me hugs. Once again she thought wrong. It was not fun. For the right price I'll happily put a paw around him. However I absawoofly do not want his giant clumsy clownpaws randomly smacking me as he tries to figure out where to put them. To make it even more insulting, after the uncoordinated chaos goblin played whack-a-mole on my head, I discovered the human had no treats!! And do you think breakfast was served early when we went back inside? Nope. Not a single morsel. I am now going to nap until I hear the sound of food. And if I hear the sound of Kenji honking that goose, I will repossess it and skillfully extract it's squeaker. 🪿😴 🎥 Feeble hug attempts #HonkingRottie #GooseWakeUpCall #MooseWithGoose #ChesnyyWantsSleep #SendTreatsNotGeese

A Stanford neuroscientist has spent thirty years arguing that you have never made a decision. Not one. Every choice you are proud of and every mistake you still think about was the output of biology you did not pick and cannot see. He teaches an entire course on why, and it is free. The man is Robert Sapolsky, who spent decades in Kenya living among wild baboons. He opens with a man who woke up one morning as somebody else. Same brain, same family, same job. One gene had changed. He describes the case and leaves it unresolved, because the point is not the answer. The point is that you already reached for one. Then he goes after the way we reach. His argument is that every explanation you have ever heard for why a person did something is broken in the same way. It is genetic. It is cultural. It is hormones. It is childhood. Each of those is a bucket, and the buckets do not exist anywhere in nature. They exist because universities have separate departments and separate corridors, and the corridors decided what counts as an explanation. Nothing interesting happens inside a bucket. Everything interesting happens where two of them touch, and almost nobody is trained to look there. HOW MANY LABOUR POLITICIANS IN OLDHAM WERE FRIENDS WITH DADDY? On 27 June 2022, in her own council chamber, Amanda Chadderton (previous Leader of Oldham Council and then member of at the time Home Secretary Yvette Cooper's inner circle) was asked about Shabir Ahmed. Her recorded answer dismissed what she called the online noise that he was a friend of people in the council as "unfounded but also nonsensical". Read the whole answer (section 36 part K of the Council's official minutes) and she goes further. She told the chamber she had never met the man, that she was never active in Labour politics at the time he was a member and active in the local party, and that when the council hired him she was two years old. Sit those statements next to each other and watch what she actually did. A woman who was two years old when Ahmed joined the council, who by her own account never met him and had no involvement in the party of his era, stood up and vouched for the social relationships of a man she never knew, across eighteen years she never witnessed. Chadderton did not say she did not know. She said the claims were unfounded. And she then went on to work for the Home Secretary after the people of Oldham removed her at the ballot box. This is not an answer, it is a character reference for a man who made children call him Daddy, issued by a leader with no means of knowing whether a word of it was true. Then watch what happened when she turned to the only institutional claim that mattered, that the council did not cover up his employment. She could not even assert it. She said "as I understand it", twice, the leader of the council defending her institution's innocence in language that reserves the right to be wrong about it. On the friendships of a man she never met she offered certainty. On the conduct of the institution she actually leads she offered a caveat. There are men who can answer the question she could not. The councillors of Ahmed's era, some of whom sit in the chamber today. I have said before that some of them knew exactly what he was and looked away. Which is why the National Inquiry must interview every Oldham councillor throughout the period it investigates the borough. Maci 💋 My POV September 18, 2026 Somewhere over the Mediterranean Good morning from somewhere over the Mediterranean. 🇮🇹 I think it’s morning. My body has filed a formal complaint and stopped participating in time zones. We should be landing in Italy pretty soon, and I’m writing now because Edgar has already scheduled our morning. We land, drive straight to the castle, meet the real estate agent, walk the property and start going through everything. I guess flying across an ocean is not a reason to have a leisurely breakfast. Yesterday started in Aspen, and after we got airborne Kristin and I had a very important strategy meeting. Spencer gave us an assignment before we left: make her fiancé miss her. That sounds simple until you remember her fiancé is Edgar. The man opened his laptop almost immediately. Kristin looked at me. I looked at Kristin. Challenge accepted. We started gently. I leaned over his shoulder while Kristin curled up beside him. She eventually had a leg across his and was running her hand along his thigh while I was giving Edgar a much better view of me than was necessary to read an email. Nothing. He smiled. Kept typing. I dated this man for two years. There was a time when that would have ended the workday immediately. It was deeply offensive. We decided our wardrobe was the problem. So we changed. That helped. There was a glance. A very small glance, but I saw it. Then back to the computer. Kristin whispered, “I hate him.” I whispered, “Me too.” We do not hate Edgar. But he was becoming irritating. A few hours later we stopped near New York to refuel and switch part of the flight crew. Mom and Dad came over from Greenwich to see me while we were on the ground. Mom hugged me, handed me another bag of clothes and immediately started asking when I was coming home. Dad hugged me, kissed my forehead and looked through the airplane door. First at Edgar. Then Kristin. Then me. Then our clothes. He chose silence. 24 years of fatherhood have taught that man survival skills. 😂 20 minutes later we were back in the air. And Kristin and I went back to work. We decided Edgar needed to relax, so we each took a foot and started massaging them. Perfectly innocent. Until I looked over and Kristin had put one of his toes in her mouth. I just stared at her. Edgar stared at her. Kristin looked completely pleased with herself. “I had nothing to do with that.” Edgar just shook his head. At that point I decided we needed professional standards, so I suggested an actual massage. The airplane has a bedroom in the back. Edgar took off his shirt, lay down, and Kristin and I gave him a four-hand massage. And THAT finally got a response. I will protect what little dignity the three of us have left and stop there. 😂 Mission accomplished? Not quite. Because afterward the man PUT HIS SHIRT BACK ON AND OPENED HIS COMPUTER AGAIN. Spencer, I tried. Eventually we had to sleep. By the time we land we’ll have been traveling forever, and none of us wanted to walk around a castle completely exhausted. There is one bed in the back. There are three of us. You can do the math. Edgar kept his boxers on. Kristin and I had packed sleepwear that may or may not have been selected with our assignment in mind. We climbed in. And somewhere in the middle of all that teasing, the whole thing got unexpectedly sweet. Edgar fell asleep. Really asleep. And when he woke up a few hours later, the first thing he did was check his phone. There was something from Spencer. He read it, smiled, and just sat there looking at it for a second. That was when I knew we'd already won. He misses her. Badly. Later he was working again, so I walked over and closed his laptop. “We have a message from your fiancée.” He looked up at me. “I figured that out six hours ago.” From beside him Kristin said, very seriously, “We’re very committed to the assignment.” I almost laughed, but I had one more thing to deliver. I leaned closer. “She said this was only the preview.” Oh. There he was. Half a second. His eyes dropped. His jaw tightened. Tiny. But I know Edgar. I smiled. “There he is.” He reopened his laptop. “I’m going back to work.” Kristin said, “Coward.” I lost it. 😂 So Queen Spencer Queen Spencer (Prithvi, Asase Yaa), your message has officially been delivered. Then we called Ava. Because after spending most of the flight tormenting one Collins, I felt it was unfair to neglect the other. I showed her the view from the airplane and reminded her that Kristin and I were about to see the castle without her. She was already annoyed. So I told her we had been discussing bedrooms. “I think yours might have to be smaller.” “You wouldn’t.” “Castles are expensive, Ava. We all have to sacrifice.” “I’m a Collins. I have ancestral room rights.” I have no idea what ancestral room rights are. Then I told her I had forgotten something in an upstairs closet in Aspen and asked if she could grab it before she left. She carried the iPad upstairs. Opened the closet. And hundreds of rubber ducks came pouring out on top of her. 🦆🦆🦆 Kristin fell over. I couldn't breathe. Even Edgar finally stopped working. For about three seconds all we could see on the iPad were ducks. Then Ava's face appeared between them. She picked up one duck and held it directly in front of the camera. “Maci.” “Yes?” “I hate you.” “No you don’t.” A pause. “No. But I’m going to.” Then she started laughing. I already miss her. That’s the strange part. Kristin and I have traveled together plenty, but somewhere along the way Ava became part of my normal. It feels wrong that she isn't sitting somewhere on this airplane creating a problem none of us anticipated. But the sky outside is getting lighter now. Kristin is awake. Edgar is, naturally, working. And somewhere beneath us is Italy. In a few hours I’m going to walk through a castle where Edgar says I have a permanent room. I still haven't decided how I feel about the word permanent. So I’m going to avoid thinking about it for a little longer. I have clothes to change into, a castle to inspect, and one very stubborn man sitting across from me who thinks our mission ended when the sun came up.
