This is just AMAZING. Trump wants to personally thank and honor the 16-year-old California lifeguard who ran straight into a brutal undertow to rescue a boy who was moments away from drowning. This lifeguard has the heart of a true hero and deserves every bit of recognition. And, as many has pointed out, this video proves that lifeguards should CLEARLY be given First Responder status and the benefits that come with it, including access to counseling. Thankfully, the boy survived, but I can't imagine what losing him would have done to that young lifeguard.

Illinois taxpayers need to pay attention to this move. This is a clever way to double dip into taxpayer money. First, you negotiate a contract with a yearly salary increase, and then, instead of budgeting that income throughout the year, you claim to be "unemployed" every summer and collect benefits. That effectively boosts your yearly compensation. If they can get this approved for some CPS employees, my guess is they'll use it as a precedent to argue that CPS teachers should also be able to file for unemployment every summer. And I know of some teachers who already claim to do that and don't get caught.
