Daily Competitions: Directional Blocking; Laterally block the ball perfectly through the milk crates. If it touches the crate at all it doesn’t count, as well as stays behind the crates. (Interesting observation, when the catchers were in traditional blocking setups they struggled keeping the ball in front of them.... show more

I would be curious to compare traditional blocking stance to the one knee stance having to go in the direction of the knee that is not starting on the ground.

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Great visual/feedback drill Coach

My guy…some of those blocks that didn’t score a point are better than the ones that did tally a point. What’s wrong with the balls that stay directly in front of them? Soft blocks that stay close are easier to recover from and deter a runner from advancing. Practical vs. Drill

Common sense states you have more leverage moving laterally in one knee down vs traditional, no?

Yes in our raining we have found much better control of the block when the catcher is OKD

Love this!!! Just my .02 I’m very much a ‘knee down ONLY in situations you are athletic enough to handle’ kind of guy, which inevitably means I like my guys to be in a 2 point stance MOST situations with runners on. Rare, but I will seldom allow guys to do it with R1 or R1/R2, definitely never with R3 for this very reason. Guys in this video going from knee down (if you watch closely) have a lower center of gravity, giving them a significant amount more control of the ball and the ricochet Off the body. Because of the height of their center of gravity from a 2 point stance and the amount of movement required from the body, the ball is kicking off a significant amount more. Also, the guys in a knee down stance tend to have a much better lean with their upper torso, which gives them the proper angle to direct the ball straight into the ground as opposed to the 2 point stance, where their torso is at more of a 45-90degree angle with the ground, causing the ball to kick OUTWARD instead of DOWN, which should be the goal. If it goes straight down, it will come straight back up. If it goes straight out, you’d better have a rocket up your ass bc you’ll be chasing the ball forever. It’s science or something like that. I think sir Isaac Newton said something about the angle at which an object hits something will cause a ricochet of the equal and opposite angle…….. SEE! I Didn’t HAVE to cheat in science, I was listening for at least one chapter
