@DaleJr If Dale ever saw the aged ribeye he eats at a restaurant before it is cooked, he would have a fit.

@DaleJr Expiration dates for perishable items should be taken seriously. Sealed non perishable items - those dates are mere suggestions. Especially items that are dry. Like - how could a chip go bad?

The truth is clear; Dale is Correct.

I sell chips for a living. The date is really about the seal on the bag. We eat expired chips all the time. 2-3 months passed date you can tell a difference though. Salsa is fine. Any cheese or dairy dip, once the seal is popped, eat it and toss it. Can dip lasts forever.

Chips go bad, even unopened. Old Saltine crackers, now there is a stale taste it feels like you will never get out of your mouth

Depends on the product and how it's stored. Many can last beyond exp. date if unopened.

@DaleJr I can’t eat anything past the expiration date. I’m with Dale 💯

I’ll have to disagree Dale. I’m like Amy I’ve been eating food beyond its shelf life for many decades and all is well. As stated, meat is a different story. Eat meat right after bought or freeze part of it, right away.

@DaleJr Dale, you’re a little wrong here. Absolutely there r things that need to go on the date, but unopened there r many things that last longer than the date…chips 4 a year I don’t buy, but my litmus test, is open them, smell it & if it passes those test try it b4 you toss it.

I mostly side with Dale, but I have to agree with Amy on chips and stuff like that, although before serving them to guests, I would definitely check to make sure they aren't stale.

Dale’s right for sure. Get it out. Got enough stuff to worry about, not taking a chance on something that clearly states when to not do it anymore.

Chips, like 2 years unopened. Meat, in the freezer, whenever you cook it. Soup, never lol Milk, like 2 weeks after expiration lol

There's 2 types of dates printed on packaged food. "Expiration dates" are not to be exceeded. "Best before" dates are there to let you know the quality/taste of the product will have degraded, while not posing a health risk. @DaleJr is 1/2 right, @AmyEarnhardt is also 1/2 right.

The "WHOOOOa" heard round the world lol. Generally expiration is a guideline. We buy fresh meat beef n chicken use 1 n split n freeze and next day do the same with the other. Anything else with expirations we eat quickly anyway. Sauces tho we had recently expired 2023.... eeew

@DaleJr I used to work for Frito-Lay and I have eaten chips that were 6 months old and they tasted fine

Most of the dates on dry products I ignore. And many are not expiration dates but are “sell by” dates which has nothing to do with expiration but is just so the stores are properly rotating their inventory.

@DaleJr I agree about the meats. Everything else I’m with Amy. I even opened a bag of Nerds Gunmy Clusters that were a year old and they were still good.

Meat usually doesn't have a expiration date. There is a sale or FREEZE by date. Amy is right. Eggs can be eaten after the sell by date.
