Small businesses are the heartbeat of our communities. Recently, I visited Lekker Stop Shop in Park Avenue, Westridge, opposite Parkhurst Primary, owned by Damian and Jodi, young South African guys. Despite criminals breaking into their shop three times, they have remained resilient and continue to serve the community with determination and pride. Local shops like these do more than provide everyday essentials; they create jobs, support families, and keep our neighbourhoods going. We need safer communities where hardworking business owners can thrive without fear. Let us continue to support our local businesses and stand behind those who refuse to give up.

People from San Francisco and the Bay Area are pouring into SF because they want to have FUN and enjoy the best of our City. We just wrapped another successful Dreamforce week that filled our hotels and restaurants, and Salesforce announced they’re returning again next year! All of this is good for our small businesses, San Francisco’s Downtown recovery and neighborhoods. And we’re just getting started.

I took the challenge because I saw how people were suffering. People were lining up for fuel, fertiliser, and medicine. Schools were shut down, businesses were at a standstill. I saw the struggle and knew I had to step in. It wasn’t easy, but I took the reins with one goal in mind, to turn things around, and I did it. I reached out to global leaders, from the IMF to the World Bank, even the Prime Minister of Japan. I knew we needed international support to rebuild. And we got it. With these aids, we started making progress. Slowly but surely, we began to stabilise. Every step of the way, there were tough calls to make. But I tackled each one head-on, knowing that recovery was on the horizon. It was about reducing the immediate burden and setting the stage for long-term growth. I didn’t stop there. We rolled out significant support measures, increasing subsidies and providing scholarships. We gave land rights to thousands, ensuring that everyone, especially the underprivileged communities, had a stake in our country’s future. We focused on modernising agriculture, transforming rural areas into thriving communities. Tourism started picking up, bringing in much-needed revenue. It was clear, we were on the right track. Today, our economy is showing signs of strength. The rupee is stabilising, and we have essential goods in stock. We’re not done yet, but we’re on our way. Our path forward is clear—we continue working together, honoring our commitments, and keeping an eye on the next step. This isn’t just about getting by, it’s about thriving. We’re creating a future for our young people, ensuring they have opportunities right here at home. We can be like Singapore, like Dubai. It’s within our reach. Today, I visited the Accra Digital Centre to assess the extent of the damage caused by yesterday’s floods. It was heartbreaking to witness the impact on businesses, innovators, entrepreneurs and the many young people whose work has been disrupted. My thoughts are with everyone affected, and I sincerely hope for a swift recovery. The Accra Digital Centre is our premier hub for startups and young innovators. We also run a learning centre as part of the One Million Coders Programme. The damage to equipment and infrastructure is severe and will require substantial resources to get the Hub back to full functionality. I have assured the affected businesses and the Centre's management that we will engage with the relevant stakeholders to support recovery efforts and explore practical measures to reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future. To everyone still dealing with the aftermath of the floods, please continue to stay safe as the rains persist. Let us all do our part to keep our environment clean and our drains free from waste. Our small shelter home is a safe, cozy forever space for four three-legged dogs who lost their limbs due to accidents and severe infections. Life on the streets is impossible for them with three legs, survival outside would be cruel and unsafe. With us, they are warm, protected, loved, and living happily, just like they deserve. They are not broken. They are strong, gentle souls who still trust humans despite everything. They will always have a home with us, and if the right, compassionate families come forward, we will carefully look at adoption too. Because some lives don’t need sympathy they need commitment and love #dogs #AnimalWelfare

Our tourism and hospitality industries are in the gutter and absolute crisis mode. Rural Ireland is experiencing a season like never before. Restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, jarveys, bike rentals and many many more small family run businesses are more often empty than full We will experience closures like never seen before in this country this winter if this government does not act quickly. We have lost all competitiveness due to spiralling costs driving up prices. Reducing the VAT is not the answer to solve immediate problems that need addressing straight away. It doesn’t matter what the VAT rate is if we have no one in our businesses I really hope Peter Burke and his team listened to what I said when we met and took on board my recommendations. It is now extremely scary and many small businesses can not sustain the costs they have incurred over the last 4-5 years. If these businesses close forever, the cost to the state will be far more than what it would cost to solve this mess once and for all I am not confident at all that the actions will be carried out but I hope there’s still time to convince them what needs to be done You will see businesses close from September onwards. It won’t be pretty by any means
