Dream car secured 🕺I started getting media test cars 20 years ago this year. One of the very first was one of these, and goodness knows how 19-year old me didn't kill himself in this car, especially in a stormy Cape Town winter 😅 I've kept an eye on the Lumina market since then and finally, the right car from the right owner at the right time came up. This thing is immaculate, FSH and completely factory original, except for a custom 8-pot big brake upgrade kit. -- I truly believe in helping people without asking for anything return. The way this car came to me, I randomly met a good friend of a good friend; young parents with a toddler. They bought an old high-miler X3 which soon failed; chain jumped and took out the head. They reached out to me for help and through my networks I helped them get a better salvage price. -- The guy who helped them is a serious collector from Pretoria and one of the nicest humans I've ever met. We started chatting often and he randomly asked me one day if I'd be interested in his Lumina, and the rest is history. What you're watching here is me seeing the car for the very first time. 39-year old me is so happy for 19-year old me, and 19-year old me is over the moon for 39-year old me. -- A massive thank you to the amazing people at Moto Village Cape Town who helped make this dream a reality. The team there have always supported me, Yovanie Ganesh and our businesses and I will forever be grateful for their kindness. -- My first intern and now full-time employee is 22 now, and he once messaged me privately and said he is struggling because he feels like he hasn't achieved anything. I told him two things that day: firstly, never compare your life to anyone else's - there are just too many variables - comparing your life to others is a surefire path to demotivation and misery. Secondly, I bought my first car when I was 33. I told him there is always time, and never, ever, ever give up. -- Can't wait to share this car with all of you. This one is a keeper and will remain in my private collection! -- I have a few sayings when it comes to collecting cars, but one of them seems to keep guiding me: Save the V8s. And save the NA V8s in particular🚀 — The Cars.co.za Team CarJoy (Pty) Ltd.

I'm using macOS for more than 14 years now, in a single laptop screen setup with lots of windows open, and I'm using macOS spaces everyday to organize my windows. Switching between spaces is easy: I hit CTRL+arrow left/right, it takes no time. What takes time however, is this macOS-native transition animation that takes a bit less than 1 second, for every single space switch. I've checked everywhere in macOS settings, asked friends with the same problem, and there's just no setting to disable this effect (even with Reduced Motion ON in Accessibility settings). This UX choice from Apple alone costs me days of my time every year, as I'm working non-stop on my SaaS business for 10h a day 5-6 days a week (Crisp for those who know about it!). I calculated that with my daily use of macOS spaces, in 6 months I'd perform 100,000 switches, which costs me the same in seconds waiting for the transition to complete. This represents almost 28 hours waiting. In 1 year, I'd have lost 2.4 days just... waiting! The Hack Fortunately, some other open-source projects discovered a hack not so long ago, which allows disabling the transition when switching spaces: it involves sending to the system a "fake" trackpad left/right swipe gesture that's faster than what's expected (faster than what a human can input via the Macbook's trackpad). Above some threshold, macOS just perform the space switch with absolutely no transition. A friend of mine, Yaël 🛸, made a quick prototype in Objective-C, and it magically worked! The Solution So, I asked my friend if we could make it a proper macOS app together, in a beautiful minimalist package, and he said yes! So, we launched Space Rabbit, a tiny 2MB fully native macOS app, that allows you to optimize macOS spaces for productivity! Space Rabbit is a full rewrite of the initial prototype in modern Swift, with a tray menu bar to configure the app, and a settings window, in a macOS app packaging. Space Rabbit can be downloaded right here: We just released V2 of the app last week, fixing a ton of little bugs, especially for dual screen setups. It's actively maintained to this day as it's my daily driver. The app is open-source: and will always be free, as it's helping improve our productivity in our daily Web Dev tasks for our main businesses. We'll be happy to implement more features from user requests, if you find this app useful and use it daily!

.Naval on Tech Education: “Technology is a form of leverage—and it's the ultimate form of leverage. If I'm a programmer, what people don't realize is that I have a million robots working for me. If I come up with an idea, I code that idea up, and now a million robots carry that idea. They're just sitting in a data center—for heat, efficiency, and space reasons—loaned to me by Amazon through AWS, who takes a small cut. That leverage means that if I decide on the right thing to do versus the wrong thing to do, I can make $100 million—or zero. It's a very wide swing. Someone who isn't leveraged through technology doesn't have that force multiplier. Someone working in a traditional industry doesn't have that same advantage. When we talk about the distribution of capital, we're used to thinking of money as the main source of capital. Before that, the main source of capital was people. How many people are working for you? That's why older generations tend to be impressed by how many employees you have. People who are a little more savvy ask how much money you're managing or how much revenue you're doing. But the correct question is: How many robots are working for you? How many programmers are working for you? How many machines are working for you? Because those are the ultimate force multipliers. So I believe the way forward is through technology education. Where technology education falls down is that it's really popular to preach education for kids. Everybody wants to educate kids—because kids can't talk back. They have no choice. Go to school. Sit down. Shut up. Learn. But what about adults? We have this myth that adults can't be educated. That adults either self-educate or they can't be educated at all. We believe that if you're 45 years old and you lose your job because your factory shuts down, you're done. Your only options are: Society has to bail you out because you're destitute. Or we artificially preserve your job through tariffs, trade barriers, or tax breaks—even though the world no longer needs that job. Instead, I think we need a culture of adult education. Imagine a model where every four years it was socially acceptable—and financially supported—for you to go back to school for a year. You'd say: "This is my school year." Maybe this year you're going to learn electronics. You spend a year learning electronics. You could be 54 years old and learning electronics. That should be a normal part of society. We need continuous education built into society because the leverage you're craving is actually permissionless. It's available to everybody. But it's knowledge-based. The gate isn't a banker sitting on a pile of money. The gate is knowledge. It's building of that knowledge. And the sharing of that knowledge.”

There’s only one antiwar, pro-worker campaign in this race. I am running for Congress as an independent antiwar socialist in WA state’s 9th district. There are two Democrats running against me. One is 29-year pro-war incumbent Adam Smith, and another is a candidate named Melissa Chaudhry. I recently attended a candidate interview. Adam Smith refused to attend. Clearly he prefers not to face my campaign which has relentlessly exposed his genocidal, anti-worker record. The other candidate, Chaudhry, would have working people believe that she is running a progressive antiwar campaign. But what are her actual positions? Nowhere has Chaudhry called for an end to military aid for Israel. The words genocide, Palestine, Israel, Gaza, or occupation don’t even appear on her website. I brought this up in the interview, and Chaudhry declined to respond. Nowhere does Chaudhry say anything about the need for universal public healthcare. Chaudhry also fails to say anything in support of trans and queer rights. When pressed, she admitted that she wanted to avoid offending a particular community. This is in the context of the horrific attacks against trans people by Trump and the right wing. Chaudhry is also silent about shutting down ICE and the detention centers. Her silence on all these crucial issues — the genocide, military aid to Israel, universal public healthcare, trans and queer rights, and ICE terror — is anything BUT progressive. Chaudhry recently assured a Democratic Party audience that she is a “team player.” It's clear what she means. She is happy to toe the line of the genocidal, anti-worker, anti-trans Democratic Party leadership to try to make a career for herself. The last thing working people need is another status quo careerist politician. Congress is full of them. What we need is a fighter for working people. If elected, I will use my Congressional office to build mass movements, like I did for a decade with my socialist Seattle City Council office, winning the nation’s highest minimum wage, the Amazon Tax and landmark renters’ rights. Join us to build for the strongest antiwar working-class vote in this primary election that ends August 4th! #socialist #palestine #gaza

Anthropic is kicking OpenAI’s ass: Insights from the largest revenue explosion in tech history Brad Gerstner on how Anthropic dominated the last 90 days, and could they hit a $100B run rate by EOY!?: “Anthropic was literally counted out of the game last year, and they've kicked OpenAI's ass over the last 90 days. Bam, you have the largest revenue explosion in the history of technology. So you have to ask, what's going on? The first thing, for me, is that model and product capability just hit this threshold near AGI, whatever the hell you want to call it. And everybody, like Altimeter, said, ‘Damn, this is so good. I have to have it. This is no longer about my IT budget. This is about labor augmentation and labor replacement. Turns out that the TAM for intelligence is radically different than anything we've seen before. And I think the best example of this, right, this is millions of self-interested parties, consumers, enterprises, a thousand now over $1M, right? It's not that there was some great go to market at Anthropic that all of a sudden they snuck up and blew everybody away. No, it was companies demanding the product. They're getting throttled on the product. Why? Because it's so good. It makes them better at their business. We knew intelligence was going to scale on the exponential. The question was whether revenue will scale on the exponential, and that's what we're seeing. And remember, they're doing this with only 1.5-2 gigawatts of compute, and the models are only getting better. So I think when you look out toward the end of the year, I would not be shocked if you see Anthropic exiting this year at $80-$100B in revenue.”

This is actually a really good story that is never told… The Carlson Bro’s highlight how Trump purchased Mar-A-Lago and Destroyed the Bush Dynasty & WASP’s after being rejected membership into the Bath & Tennis Club, an ultra-exclusive private club for the “Old Guard” in Palm Beach It’s one of the island’s longstanding “old guard” WASP (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant) social clubs, known for strict membership vetting based on family lineage, wealth, and social connections. Shortly after buying Mar-a-Lago, Trump and his then-wife Ivana reportedly tried to gain membership in the Bath and Tennis Club and similar elite clubs like the Everglades Club. —— They were blackballed/snubbed by Palm Beach’s old-money crowd. The president of the Bath and Tennis Club explicitly told Ivana that the couple would be denied if they applied. These clubs had long histories of exclusionary policies (no Jews, no African Americans—an open secret at the time. In a 1990 Vanity Fair interview, Trump addressed the rumors directly: “Utter bullshit! … They kiss my ass in Palm Beach— I wouldn’t join that club, because they don’t take blacks and Jews.” He publicly criticized their discriminatory policies. Long story short, In 1995, he converted Mar-a-Lago into the Mar-a-Lago Club—a members-only private club open to a broader crowd (new money, Jews, African Americans, celebrities, etc.) and this was a BIG FU to the stuffy, exclusionary old guard clubs. .david friedberg: “A wealth tax takes away private property. If you give the government the ability to do that on even 1% of net worth for billionaires, the next step is 5% of the billionaires, or maybe 2% of millionaires, and then maybe it’s 3% on people that have a net worth of 100 grand a year. And by the way, to figure out how much you have, what your assets are, you’ve got to send me a list every year of everything you own. So now the government gets to look into your house, not just see what’s in your bank account, what stocks you own, but what cars do you own? What’s the value of those cars? How much is that art worth? What’s everything here worth? Private property rights go out the window when you institute a wealth tax. Because now the government has the right to assess all your value and to take anything they want from you based on a vote where a bunch of people raise their hand and say, we’ll increase the tax rate to this—5%, 2%, 10%, whatever it is—and here’s the threshold, and we’ll take it every year. And when you do that, it eventually leads to 51% of people voting to take everything from 49%. That’s the worst case. That’s the end state of this. It eats itself, and that’s socialism. And so I think that a wealth tax—and look, it’s not going to affect me, this California tax. So don’t think that I’m trying to speak my book or whatever the comments or bullshit are. I think this is a fundamental, principled issue. By degrading private property rights, we are setting a precedent in the United States that is the foundation of why the United States was set up in the first place, which is for all of us that came to this country to get away from tyrannical governments outside the United States that took all our shit and controlled everything and told us what to do all the time. And we came here and we get to have private property. Sure, I’ll pay my tax. Here’s my 53%. Thank you very much, government, for all the great stuff you do, for all the services you provide. But now, f*ck off and leave me alone. And that’s not the case anymore when this passes. Bernie Sanders, Ro Khanna, all these national politicians, AOC, Elizabeth Warren—they’re all saying we need to have a national wealth tax now. So it’s not just in California. This is going to be the issue between 2026 and 2028. The elites are the billionaires and the tech people. They’re coming after them. And the manifestation of that is to create this wealth tax. And that gives the government the system by which private property rights are gone. And the United States has a very questionable future at that point. That’s the thing I worry about the most. And I juxtapose that with my optimism about the future and this amazing shit. I mean, think about it—this amazing shit that’s happening in the world. We’re going to have free f*cking energy. We’re going to live forever. We’re going to have all of this insane stuff that we never imagined. Abundance and resources that we could never contemplate. Happiness. Spending time with family. Working less hours. Robots that build shit for us. Everything is going to get better. Everything is getting better. Everything is getting more amazing. And then we’re like, let’s f*ck ourselves. Why not? Because we’ll just f*ck ourselves.”
