Dan Lanning continues on his crusade this week against the current CFP schedule. "There's clearly a better way... Every playoff game should be played every single weekend until you finish the season... The season ends January 1st... We've given up some of our days to the NFL... Saturdays should...

He's not calling for the end of bowl games. He's calling for the end of bowl games being used as quarterfinal and semifinal games in the CFP.

I’m sure the Rose Bowl would love to host a matchup of two 8-4 teams.

@AllPSUfootball Rose bowl should be for the National Championship every year

@BrennaGreene_ That would be great.

Not the end of bowl games—just removing them from the playoff bracket.

That would ultimately tank the bowl games financially. Plus not like these high prestige games want a TCU-USC matchup. So, yeah, maybe it would take a few years, but long term, yeah, I don’t see a way to continue them if this plan were to happen.

I mean…the pop tart bowl would like a word.

He's not calling for the end of bowl games. He's calling for removing bowl games from the playoff system.

Agree 100% w/ Lanning! How great would be to have Miami going into the Big Horseshoe tonight to face Ohio State. Oregon rolling into Lubbock to deal w/ Texas Tech’s “Guns Up” crowd would be special. Let the bowl games handle the non-playoff teams. But CFP games should showcase CFB on-campus treasures!

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings here, but there's no reason why college football teams cannot schedule games on Saturdays regardless of what the NFL does. And, if they don't, and they talk to each other about it, we have an antitrust issue on our hands.

So glad this coaches are speaking out more and more about the problems but now we gotta get somebody to to run the show and change things to make more sense. A leader or commissioner is always needed.

I’m sure this proposal is very popular with fans/media morons, but, like so much with the college football echo system, the devil is in the details/unforeseen impacts… 1) If this means ending the conference title games, that means there are no conference champs (because the leagues are far too big for everyone to play each other). It would also mean the end of the Army/Navy game as it currently exists 2) If the conference title games remain, going to this schedule would create a HUGE disadvantage for playing in/winning a title game, and this year you still wouldn’t be able to play the national championship game on January 1st (unless you bizarrely played the final game on 4 days rest!) Regardless, you have extremely short amounts of time for fans to plan/travel to these games, all during the holidays and winter weather. You also have on-campus games during a time period when campuses are totally empty. It always amazes me how supposedly smart/knowledgable people simply don’t think their “solutions” through.

Lanning is right. Just copy the FCS playoff format. It’s the best playoff series in football.

Bowl games should be moved to the preseason and allow big time matchups like Notre Dame vs USC that are disappearing because of the CFP. The games wouldn’t count for the regular season record and it would increase attendance at the bowl games. The major bowl games should be left for the CFP. It’s a rather simple fix.

Agree... make the Rose Bowl the national championship game every single year. Heaven forbid the people in charge do what's best for the sport, not what's best for their wallets.

Phooey on a playoff. It’s rarely hard to determine the 2 best, most deserving teams each year. Have 1 natty title game; everyone else in bowls. Cut half of the bowls. Make it matter & crush all hopes if you lose in the regular season. That’s what made college football so great

Nope, teams that lose in the first three rounds get slated into new years bowl games. Pretty easy.

I’m in favor of the 2 semifinal games being played in bowls (that are rotated in and out each year of the cfp just like the 4 team playoff) and every game before that is a home game for the better seeded team

not that a lot of people would even consider it (including him)....but most of these players will never see the inside of an NFL locker room and they actually need the degrees they getting and college football is just an extracurricular activity.... and December is the end of the term or semester and student players have finals and papers to write which should be their focus....

Why do CFB coaches hate CFB history and tradition. He’s literally wanting an NFL format for a completely different sport.

This reflects the thinking of a man who sees his players as professionals in a business and not students at a school with other priorities & responsibilities. Interesting.

Just like Friday nights should be sacred for high school games but @NCAAFootball continues to intrude on that, so don’t criticize the @NFL for what you do to!

That effectively doesn’t end bowl games Brenna… he’s clearly only talking about playoff games. And just bc they’re played at a schools stadium doesn’t mean the bowl sponsor itself has to go away… you’re a sports reporter?

He’s right. Start with conference champions getting in. No championship games. Use tiebreaker like the NFL to decide. Then the highest ranked runner up from each conference. Then 4 wildcards. No bye. Top seed plays lowest at home throughout.
