DAN MITCHELL: MILEI HAS DONE THE LARGEST PEACETIME SPENDING CUT IN WORLD HISTORY "What's happening in Argentina today is frankly miraculous. (...) For 75 years, the pendulum has been way over on the left with the Peronists. (...) Argentina has literally been, the worst performing economy in the world,... for a long time. It got so bad that a couple of years ago (...) the voters did something that nobody expected. They elected a wild libertarian, Javier Milei. Within two months, Milei literally balanced the budget. Within less than a year, he brought inflation from well over 200%, down to about 25%. (...) He's deregulating, he's even said 'no' to all the interest groups. He has done the largest peacetime spending cut in world history, by reducing the burden of government by 6% of GDP. He did all that, yet in the midterm elections (...) everyone thought the Peronists were going to win, instead Javier Milei and the libertarian party won a landslide victory. So I'm incredibly hopeful that Argentina is going to show the entire rest of the world that if you do good policy—because it's basically Reaganism, Thatcherism on steroids—not only can you turn your economy around very rapidly, but you can also get politically rewarded. Hooray for Argentinian voters! I have every expectation that Javier Milei can make Argentina one of the richest countries in the world again."
