Mac Jones on playing really well last season and the QB controversy talk that came with it: “I’ve been on the other side of it. I’ve been the starter and there’s a little controversy. I’ve been in Brock’s shoes. There’s no controversy. It is Brock’s team and I still believe that. There’s a respect when you respect a guy who just got paid, earned it, played really well and got hurt. It’s my job as a backup quarterback to go in and play well. I think he supported me really well in that situation. You can’t do that to Brock Purdy because you don’t see things that Mac Jones is doing that Brock Purdy cannot do. Richard Sherman believes Brock Purdy will sit out for at least 3 more weeks to rest his injured toe: “Of course Brock Purdy is still the number one quarterback. Mac Jones understands that. Kyle Shanahan understands that. John Lynch understands that. The outside world needs to understand that. There’s gonna be no QB controversy. I don’t think there’s a chance Brock Purdy is healthy and he’s not the number one quarterback. I think that would be absurd. But do I think this gives the 49ers peace of mind to let Brock Purdy heal in totality and not rush him back like they had to do in the Jaguars game? No question about it. You want the mindset to drive the football and Brock has both tools and Brock is exceptional at whatever layering it is, whether it’s throwing it over zoning defenders, or finding holes in the defense, he’s exceptional at that. You want the mindset as a quarterback 'I’m driving the football', and we remind him of that. He has both tools and so I think the nickname’s funny.“
