At 70, Rasila Thakkar is showing youngsters that the joy of Garba only grows with time! Lovingly called Garba Baa, she raised her daughter single-handedly, cooking in other people’s homes to fund her education. Today, her Garba reels are winning hearts, spreading joy and celebrating Gujarat’s vibrant folk dance tradition. And every Navratri, her excitement to dance remains just as strong. As Rasila says, “At 67, I play garba with all my heart. It's a beautiful way to stay active, no?” Her story is a beautiful reminder that life’s challenges need not mean giving up on what you love. #Garba #Navratri #GarbaDance #GujaratiCulture [70-year-old Garba dancer, Rasila Thakkar Garba Baa Navratri Garba celebration]

She crossed 7,000 km to follow a passion that Bollywood helped bring back to life. Meet Cate Smith, a 58-year-old professional dancer from Perth, Australia, who discovered a new love in Garba, Gujarat’s vibrant folk dance. As a teenager, Cate trained in jazz, tap, ballet and contemporary dance. But marriage and raising her children meant her own passion took a back seat. Years later, Bollywood films reignited her love for dance. She began learning steps online, practising spins and barrels, and gradually falling in love with Garba. Soon, learning from afar wasn’t enough. Cate wanted to experience the music, colours and energy of Garba in India. Last year, she finally travelled 7,000 km to dance alongside thousands of people, immersing herself in the joy and spirit of the celebration. For Cate, it was more than a journey across continents. It was a chance to reconnect with a part of herself she had never truly left behind. #Garba #Navratri #BollywoodDance #IndianCulture [58-year-old Australian woman travelling to India to dance Garba, Australian dancer from Perth learning Indian Garba dance]
