The making of the video was documented at the time, but that footage has mainly remained unseen until today. The new 4K video for the Steve Thompson Mix remix of the track features behind-the-scenes footage from the late-night shoot at Spillers Millennium Mills in the East End of London. The single version of the song was released on 27th August, with all the proceeds benefiting famine relief. It topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks and reached No. 7 in the United States on the Billboard Hot 100. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of ”Dancing In The Street,” a limited edition white vinyl 12" is available now, bringing together every one of the song's mixes for the first time. As with the original, 30% of the retail price from the sale of this single, representing royalties and proceeds, will be donated to the Band Aid Charitable Trust by David Bowie, Mick Jagger and Parlophone Records. Talking about the collaboration today, Mick Jagger comments ‘’We had such a laugh doing ‘Dancing in the Street’ with both the song recorded in the studio and the video done in one day. The video for the track, which, like the song, had only been recorded and filmed in thirteen hours, only fourteen days earlier, was shown at 7 pm in the UK (2 pm in Philadelphia), just before Bowie took to the stage at Wembley Stadium. The making of “Under Pressure” was total serendipity. In 1981, Queen and David Bowie were recording separate projects at Mountain Studio — which was owned by Queen — in Montreux, Switzerland. The group’s producer David Richards popped over to Bowie and asked if he wanted to jam. They all got boozed and decided to make a song together. Queen drummer Roger Taylor had penned some lyrics but Bowie took the songwriting lead and sprinkled his magic. The “Under Pressure” collaboration was an instant hit when it came out in October 1981 (author’s note: this song goes hard AF). However, Bowie never got to perform the song live with legendary Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. They were both present at the Live Aid Concert in 1985, but Bowie wasn’t able to jump onto the Queen set. In 1992, Bowie did get to perform a live event with Queen for a Freddy Mercury Tribute concert (Annie Lennox sang Mercury’s part). This video stitches those two performances to show Bowie and Mercury singing on stage “together”. Legends.

BOWIE EXITS THE 70s IN THE UK WITH KENNY EVERETT “Can you hear me, Major Tom?” 45 years ago today, David Bowie’s re-recording of Space Oddity was broadcast on the Will Kenny Everett Make It To 1980? Show. You'll be familiar with this broadcast (Shot 18 September 1979 | Broadcast 31 December 1979), but this From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free edit bears repeating. The original footage was directed for the show by Bowie’s video director of the time, David Mallet, the action takes place in a high-ceilinged padded cell and an exploding kitchen with an unflappable nurse. Speaking to Angus MacKinnon in the NME in 1980, Bowie said: “That came about because (David) Mallet wanted me to do something for his show and he wanted Space Oddity. I agreed as long as I could do it again without all its trappings and do it strictly with three instruments. Having played it with just an acoustic guitar onstage early on, I was always surprised as how powerful it was just as a song, without all the strings and synthesizers. In fact the video side of it was secondary; I really wanted to do it as a three-piece song.” Both scenes were recreated for the May 1980 filming of Ashes To Ashes, the continuity experts among you will notice the very obvious differences. So, ten years after it was originally a hit, Major Tom also had the last word of the 70s for Bowie. Another 45 years on and the impact of this version is still as powerful. Looking back on our cameo in the David Bowie Official short film "Jazzin' for Blue Jean" 📽️ Although we shared the set with Bowie, it never really dawned on us because we weren't really playing a gig... That was until we started filming at the Wag Club in Soho, where the stage was just about the size of a small living room. It was almost like being in a band, and during that time we got to know him well. He was lovely, very sharp, quite shy, and quite quiet. May he rest in peace. #rightsaidfred #thefreds #fredhead #davidbowie
