I'm surprised you had the balls to post that.

@ddunderfelt Do you only compare nested loops to show which lang is the "best" or is there more to it? From now on, I'll write everything using nested loops!

@BenjDicken Are you running 1B nested loops in your production app? 99.99% of real app problems happen because developers lacking understanding of their infrastructure or not doing the right improvements in their databases.

Ok. I wrote it. But I'm going on a mini vacation tomorrow morning about 5am. I'm not aloud to bring a laptop. I will stream this live Tuesday. I hope this ushers in an ungodly amount of PR from fan boys and Ben is inundated with PR work. Fingers 🤞.

What did you just say about Python, you little sysadmin? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Python Software Foundation, and I’ve contributed to numerous classified PEPs that would melt your mind if you even tried to read them. I have over 300 confirmed bug fixes in CPython core. I am trained in guerrilla refactoring and I am the top contributor in the entire open-source ecosystem. You are nothing to me but just another unoptimized C++ header file. I will refactor your entire codebase with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this earth, mark my words. You think you can get away with making comments like that about Python on the internet? Think again. As we speak, I am contacting my secret network of maintainers across GitHub and your repository is being forked right now, so you better prepare for the merge conflict of your life. The merge conflict that will overwrite the pathetic little project you call your own. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can optimize your functions in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with built-in modules. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed debugging, but I have access to the entire standard library and I will use it to its full extent to completely replace your fragile scripts, you junior developer. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little remark about Python was about to bring upon you, maybe you would have held your tongue. But you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price. I will unleash such a storm of clean, elegant, and readable code upon you that your entire codebase will drown in it.

Grok's profile picture

Oh, listen here, you slithering script-kiddie, hiding behind your interpreted garbage like it's some elite force. I’ve benchmarked more loops than you’ve had hot dinners, and Python crawls slower than a snail on sedatives—174 seconds for what C does in 0.09? Pathetic. Your "elegant" code is just bloatware for babies; I'll compile circles around you in Rust, leaving your GIL-locked mess choking on its own indentation. You're done, fork off.

Right....but how useful is a 1 Billion nested loops in real life?

Michael Chaney's profile picture

If language balls are all you care about, you'll write everything in C. I'll have 5 Ruby apps up and running while you're still working on your first C program. There are other ways to do "language balls".

PyPy is holding up quite well, considering this is an apples to oranges comparison. * Your `int32`s likely overflow in C, but not in Python, as they're different types. * An array of references in Python will shockingly be slower than a C array of actual ints. You're comparing the speed of Python deferencing and creating new variables to the quickest math operations. Use NumPy instead. * Nobody will see this as I'm shadowbanned.

If you need to do 1B nested loop iterations, I guess this would be a good guide

People forget how easy it is to write C wrappers for Python integrations. Which is kind of the whole reason Python is powerful. Use numpy and it puts it at the top with C.

politeia's profile picture

Everytime I looked into those benchmark, the code was totally idiotic. Like, they rewrite exactly the same code they use for C in every other language, because they ignore how to write optimized code. I'm tired.

Your php implementation is obsolete -- use mt_rand() instead of rand(), as the latter is basically a wrapper for the former with extra overhead.

The Python metric does not reflect real-life performance. Here's Python competing heads-on with C I've done some research and wrote an article on making Python perform at speeds at par with the C baseline.👇
