Well maybe Karen just couldnt find the strength since she lost her best friend too and she isnt a robot or a perfect human being.

Karen and Matt reacted exactly how I thought they might to losing the most important person in their lives. Matt shut down, like he does. That triggered Karen's trauma from her dad cutting her off post-Kevin, so she ran (again.) It's tragic, but the show handled it well.

People change in 7 years and she lost her best friend man she's not going to make perfect choices. She tried to reach out but Matt does what he normally does and hides from everyone, by the time he was ready Karen had made her own choices

The original version preoverhaul was gonna pretend Karen never existed to begin with, so when the overhaul happened they needed an excuse for why she wasn’t there. I wish they had given a reason that made it less her choice because it does seem like she forgot this moment

I absolutely hate how Karen just straight up abandoned Matt only to make a half-assed reappearance.
