will put down my thoughts and answer the few questions i get from replies here: - we’re able to achieve this with lesser batching; most data center providers heavily compute your requests with hundreds others. we adjust this for each node dynamically based on the TPS they can serve. - we can theoretically increase the inference supply by 15% if we can get all large mac machines in the network. Much higher if medium size (64GB) can do more.

we're not in denial. we agree that the threat model is "hack apple to hack us" similar to what distributed intel-based CC networks are doing and the people we're talking to are fine with this threat model. there are categories like gaming, translation, autoresearch which don't always require same grade of privacy as legal or health documents. if this was not clear in our wording on the website - let us know. we're happy to correct that.

For conversational voice AI, you want to set the gpt-oss reasoning behavior to "low". (The default is "medium".) Notes on how to do that and a jinja template you can use are in the repo. The LLM in the demo video is the big, 120B version of gpt-oss. You can use the smaller, 20B model for this, of course. But OpenAI really did a cool thing here designing the 120B model to run in "just" 80GB of VRAM. And the llama.cpp mlx inference is fast: ~250ms TTFT. Running a big model on-device feels like a time warp into the future of AI.

Today we’re announcing r-1, our new document parsing model. It’s more accurate than our most powerful agentic OCR models, faster, and up to 6x cheaper. At Reducto, we spent two years building specialized models for complex visual layouts, tables spanning multiple pages, and key formatting like strikethroughs. We then used everything we learned to build r-1, the first in a new generation of models designed to handle the hardest documents without multiplying cost. This early preview delivers a 20% lower error rate than our most accurate legacy agentic models and will keep improving with new checkpoints over the next few weeks.
