Darth Maul fighting a dual wielding Darth Sidious with his own lightsaber AND the Darksaber will forever be one of my FAVORITE lightsaber duels in all of Star Wars. Clone Wars is just SO PEAK!!

Sidious showed up and Dog Walked them both I loved it.

Elite fight, also not sure many people point out that when Palps stabs Savage he makes sure to hit him in both his hearts cause Zabrak’s have two.

Palpatine fought 4 Jedi masters and killed 3 with just 1 lightsaber, but felt the need to use both when dealing with maul. Ironically, that was probably his way of acknowledging how skilled his former apprentice truly is.

And then he never wields the darksaber on screen again even tho he had it for the next 17 years

And then Disney cancelled it right after this season and still haven’t released the 53 episodes that were in production.

Blows my mind how Palpatine completely disregarded the Darksaber after defeating Maul. How could he not take it for himself? He obviously doesn't care for its significance, but it seems like an artifact or relic Palpatine would be interested in.

What I adore in this fight is that Sidious and Maul are shown equals in terms of dueling. Maul gets some good hits and Palpatine proceeds to say "fuck it, I don't wanna lose in combat" and uses the force

No chance, anakin/vader is everything Palpatine wanted Maul to be

I wish we could get a Mace vs Palps duel in the clone wars style, where they actually show both combatants immense skill and power. Obviously we weren’t shown it in ROTS because of Ian McDiarmid’s physical limitations

And yet he gets outclassed by out-of-practice ahsoka

The light distortion from red and black clashing is sooo sick

For a while, that bit with Palpatine torturing Maul as the episode ended was where the latter died… until Rebels & Son of Dathomir wasn’t canon for me. Now, I accept Maul didn’t die until Rebels S3.

as much as this fight is one of my favorites in the series, i always thought it wouldve been perfect for him to pick up savage's saber instead of the darksaber. wouldve been an fantastic way to debut his return to form as a dual bladed duelist

I fell off Clone Wars somewhere along the line (prolly around the time I left for college), and never picked it back up. I gotta go back and finish this show, because WTF?!

The way that Savage was literally eradicated by Sidious just before while he was a great warrior is crazy Sidious took them both, laughing at them and still considering Maul as a rival at this moment... Like, wtf man, how he could be a rival while it was not even a close fight 😭

People who only watch the movies Deeply under estimate just how Awesome the chancellor was at lightsaber combat no wonder he was able to go toe to toe with windu pity that fight didn’t have a better outcome😭

The best part of this is the context that Sidious apparently knew Maul was alive for a while and just decided one day to do something about it So he showed up at his door, murdered his brother, and beat Maul handily while looking like he was having the time of his life

Sidious taught him well... Too well.

It would be if they didn't fight like that. The stop-and-lock keyframe animation with the curving motion blur will never not annoy me.

Maul survived so much shit only to be one shot by obi wan.

The fact that Maul had the Dark Saber and Sidious didn’t even care about it. The geezer just wanted to keep his status as top dog 😮‍💨
