Andhra IT minister Lokesh Nara says Vizag Data Centres Won't Hit City Water Supply Nara Lokesh today told the Assembly that data centres in Visakhapatnam won't affect city drinking water. He said the planned 6.5 GW ecosystem needs about 3 TMC water annually, which will come from Polavaram's industrial quota via dedicated pipelines, not city supply. Vizag's urban water will be met via Polavaram gravity supply in 18 months. The U.S. corporate sector must look at ways and means to further enhance its very long and productive relationship with Pakistan, said the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Anwaar-Ul-Haq Kakar while addressing a delegation of the U.S. Pakistan Business Council (USPBC), on the sidelines of annual session of United Nations General Assembly in New York on Thursday evening. Who's Really Profiting from Alberta's Data Centers? The Alberta government calls data centers a multi-billion-dollar opportunity. But what's the return for Albertans? These projects demand enormous amounts of electricity, natural gas, water and public infrastructure. They place new pressures on municipalities and local communities, yet the government has provided very little information about the long-term economic benefits to Albertans. How much provincial tax revenue will they generate? What will they cost taxpayers and how will they affect affordability and inflation? Why are municipalities and local residents being sidelined in the process? I'm not opposed to data centers. Alberta should absolutely compete for investment. But attracting investment at any cost isn't good government. If Albertans are expected to provide the land, infrastructure, energy and public services that make these projects possible, then Albertans should be the first to benefit - not the last. We need transparency, accountability and a framework that protects the public interest before we commit billions of dollars' worth of Alberta's resources. Data centres could be an opportunity for Australia but only if we get the settings right and plan for the long term. That means putting in place strong power and water safeguards, ensuring they are appropriately located, guaranteeing local compute access for Australian companies and introducing some kind of data centre tax - which we have heard nothing about from government. These companies are experts at profit shifting offshore and we need to retain some benefit here in Australia. We also need to see far greater investment in retraining workers who face job displacement due to AI and make sure we're not make housing affordability worse if data centres are taking away from our construction workforce.

I was very impressed by the work the young people at Hume Centre for Ecology and Wildlife Biology are doing under the leadership of the centre Director CK Vishnudas and Social Scientist Suma Das. Collecting data through tribal people, villagers and farmers has made their ability to predict landslides and weather phenomena much sharper and more accurate. They are doing incredible work towards understanding the effects of climate change, disaster management and also promoting a scientific temper among the youth of Wayanad. It was truly a pleasure to learn so much from them. They made us all proud and I hope that many of their learnings can be shared with the rest of the world.

While congratulating the Congressmen and the American people on the 250th anniversary of U.S. Independence, the Prime Minister also conveyed his warm regards and best wishes for President Donald Trump. The Prime Minister fondly recalled President Trump’s bold and decisive intervention that led to cessation of hostilities and ceasefire between Pakistan and India in May 2025, and helped saved hundreds of millions of lives. On bilateral relations, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan was keen to further strengthen its cooperation with the U.S. in trade, investment, agriculture, IT, mines & minerals and the energy sector. Both Congressmen thanked the Prime Minister for the warm hospitality extended to them during their visit. They noted that President Trump enjoyed excellent relations with the Pakistani leadership, which was also having a positive impact on the bilateral ties. They praised the Prime Minister for Pakistan’s leading role in regional peace efforts. The two sides agreed to increase the number and frequency of visits by Congressional delegations to Pakistan as well as visits of parliamentary delegations to the U.S. After the meeting, the Prime Minister hosted a reception in honor of a delegation of U.S. corporate sector executives who are visiting Pakistan. The delegation includes representatives of diverse sectors including IT and technology, energy, mining and manufacturing. Welcoming the delegation, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding partnership with the U.S., emphasizing that economic cooperation remains a central pillar of bilateral ties. He invited more U.S. companies to invest in Pakistan in mutually beneficial ventures across a wide range of sectors. During their warm and most cordial exchange, the Prime Minister underscored that the Pakistani American diaspora, well represented among the visiting U.S. business delegation, constitutes a vital bridge between Pakistan and the United States. The reception was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Ministers, and senior government officials.
