Another great episode, @parismarx ! These tech companies are masking their overuse of fossil fuels with “energy innovation.” They’re searching for said innovation to power their data centers ON TOP OF their fossil fuel use. Couldn’t be further from where we should be headed 🤦‍♂️

These companies are so desperate to profit from the AI boom that they are racing to construct thousands of giant AI data centers, jacking up utility costs for everyday Americans to pay for them. These data centers power thousands of high-intensity computer chips that are processing constantly and require massive amounts of energy to operate. Just one hyperscale data center consumes the same amount of energy in one second as 100,000 households. Because of this massive energy use, power and water utility companies must build multibillion-dollar infrastructure to keep up with the demand.

Yesterday, I spoke out against data centers and AI layoffs at the Seattle City Council. Under mass pressure, the City Council passed a one-year moratorium on new hyperscale data centers. This is a victory for working people, but one year is far from enough. My independent socialist campaign for Congress is the only one in this election fighting for an end to hyperscale data centers, for democratic public ownership of all existing data centers, and for a public-sector living wage jobs guarantee, funded by taxing the rich, to counter the AI-related mass layoffs. #datacenter #socialist #independent #ai #freepalestine
