@bulletproofexec So collagen is essentially useless?

@bulletproofexec "There is no evidence that adding 5g of collagen to whey will produce greater rates of muscle protein synthesis..." nor any reason to suspect it would nor any plausible reasons nor mechanisms it would. There may be other benefits to combining them, that's not one of them. 🤨

I am VERY Skeptical About Collagen… This might be an unpopular opinion, but IMO collagen supplementation has not been shown to have clear benefits A new meta-analysis (PMID: 40324552) looked at this skin elasticity and aging & determined there was a positive effect of collagen supplementation on skin aging… BUT The researchers did a sub-analysis where they separated the results into those studies sponsored by companies that sell collagen products vs. those studies that were not sponsored by those companies. They showed that the studies funded by companies selling collagen had positive effects but the studies that were funded independently did NOT show significant beneficial effects indicating that there may have been bias influencing these results Now there was still a small positive effect of collagen on these outcomes but I am unconvinced that this is not simply an effect of increased protein overall In this study (PMID: 40523226), healthy adults were given 30g of hydrolyzed collagen or 30g of matched free amino acids post workout & the researchers examined rates of muscle protein synthesis (MPS), connective tissue protein synthesis (CPS), & skin protein synthesis (SPS) Spoiler alert: collagen supplementation FAILED to increase MPS, CPS, or SPS This is not surprising to me since other studies have demonstrated that collagen does not increase CPS compared to regular ol’ whey protein (PMIDs: 37202878 & 39086044). I am not sold on collagen at all as it has a horrible amino acid profile (way worse than any plant protein) & even high doses of it do not increase MPS or CPS (PMID: 40523226). IMO it’s a waste of $ & you can get as good or better results by using whey protein & wearing sunscreen If you love research breakdowns like this make sure you subscribe to my research review, REPS. Plant Protein is as Good as Animal Protein for Building Muscle? New Study Breakdown! A new study just dropped demonstrating that a plent blend was as good as whey protein at building muscle over 12 weeks in untrained men undergoing a resistance training program. The headline may surprise some of you, but when I read the full study, I was not surprised at all… why? Because the plant blend was matched to whey in leucine and total EAAs. When you equalize the actual anabolic signals, the gap closes — which is exactly what my PhD thesis showed nearly 20 years ago. Study details (PMID: 41059835) • Randomized, controlled trial in untrained men • Whey vs. plant blend (pea + soy + added leucine) • 12-week supervised resistance-training program • Outcomes: quadriceps cross-sectional area (ultrasound), DEXA, lower-body strength • Result: Both groups improved significantly, with no between-group differences in hypertrophy or strength. This is in line with my PhD research which demonstrated that wheat (a poor protein for stimulating muscle protein synthesis) was as good as whey at stimulating MPS when leucine was added to wheat protein to match the leucine content of whey (PMID: 22818257) Important nuance: The plant blend used in this study is not commercially available, and appears that it was formulated + fortified to match whey’s leucine/EAA profile. That’s why it performed similarly, not because all plant proteins are inherently equivalent to whey for anabolism If your plant protein is low in leucine or EAAs… the results won’t look like this. That said, a plant protein sources can still be as anabolic as animal protein sources if their leucine/EAA content is high enough or if you consume enough protein overall

Remember when Paul Saladino said protein powder was “BS” and “not ancestral”? Now he’s selling whey protein powder… complete with colostrum, collagen, and—wait for it—an autographed frother. Because apparently nothing screams “ancestral living” like a signed milk-foam machine. 🥴 And he’s calling it “undenatured whey.” Spoiler: that phrase means absolutely nothing. All commercial whey is already “undenatured.” Even if it weren’t, denaturation is a natural and necessary process—it’s literally what happens when your stomach digests protein. Bragging about “undenatured whey” is like bragging your ice is “wet.” The irony? This is the same guy who’s preached for years to avoid processed foods and claimed protein powder is BS. Now he’s selling one of the most processed supplements on the market. Science didn’t change. His business model did. Oh and adding colostrum? Completely superfluous. Colostrum doens’t do anything that regular whey protein doesn’t do other than drain your wallet, Paul’s favorite pastime. 📚 Evidence (real science, not marketing): •Tang et al., 2009 – Whey > casein/soy for muscle protein synthesis (PMID: 19589961) •Morton et al., 2018 – Meta-analysis: protein supplementation improves training gains (PMID: 28698222) •Phillips, 2016 – Protein quality matters; whey supports growth & recovery (PMID: 27529274) So yeah… welcome to Team Whey, Paul. Took you long enough—and thanks for the autograph, I’ll treasure my frother forever. ☕😂

When every whey protein brand in India is trying to be 'something', For All goes the opposite whey... sorry, say. It's motto is, 'Taste like nothing. Add to anything'. The idea is really interesting. Many whey protein brands in are looking at how to make their products tasty so that people keep coming back to them. But For All (a US-based brand) is looking at it very differently - how to make the whey (isolate) taste like nothing so that it can be added to anything you make, including coffee, pasta, side dishes, etc. and not worry about whey tastes in itself. It seems too good to be true because it blends whey protein's taste into the background while focusing only on the benefit. A lot of Indian whey protein and isolate brands have unflavored variants, but all of them add something to whatever we add them to. I have tried adding unflavored whey protein and whey isolates to roti dough, and there is a distinct difference, either during the making stage (more gooey dough, making rotis thicker) or in the consumption stage. So, we end up buying protein-induced atta like Milld. But For All's premise is incredibly appealing. And the ad (agency: Raindrop, San Diego) tells the story rather directly, but little nuances (like the 'nothing' uttered by people at the apt moment) significantly enhance even the functional pitch. I can't wait for a 'tastes like nothing' whey isolate brand to launch in India! #advertising #marketing #creativity

you don’t need whey protein because it’s unnatural” is genuinely one of the worst takes floating around indian households. let me be clear. 1 scoop gives you roughly 25g of protein in minutes. your dal, sabzi, and roti combined don’t even come close to what your body actually needs to function properly. whey protein isn’t some lab-created poison. it’s literally milk protein separated out. if paneer is natural, whey is natural. the only difference is whey actually works faster and doesn’t come loaded with extra fat. here’s the real problem. most indians, especially vegetarians, are surviving on maybe 30-40g of protein daily when they need double that just to maintain basic health. and the solution is sitting right there but people won’t touch it because someone said it’s western or chemicals. (by the way you can consume protein from other sources, fair enough but i'm accounting for ease and bioavailability as well) whenever i travel constantly. trains, hotels, random cities. i don’t have to stress about breakfast because i can tear open a packet, mix it in 200ml water, and get 25g of protein that keeps me sorted till afternoon. if you can afford it and especially if you’re vegetarian, stop making protein harder than it needs to be. add a scoop to your breakfast or post-workout and watch your energy, recovery, and overall health improve. also this isn’t about bodybuilding. this is about not being protein-starved in a carb-heavy culture. make sense?

I do not know who the guy is on the podcast with Raj Shamani, but he is absolutely wrong. There seems to be a section of "health influencers" who fearmonger the public on "dangers of whey protein or protein supplementation." Ammonia production is not a side effect of whey protein metabolism, but is a normal metabolic product of any protein metabolism. Ammonia is natural, generated as a by-product of protein ingestion through the breakdown of amino acids. Of the amino acids, glutamate is the one that has maximal free ammonia generation. In normal healthy persons, excessive ammonia generation is handled by the body and it does not affect brain function. This is done via the "urea cycle" in the liver: In patients with liver disease such as acute liver failure or chronic liver failure, the excess ammonia cannot be cleared out by the weak/failing liver or utilized in the muscles (because of muscle loss in liver patients) and affects brain functioning, leading to a condition called hepatic encephalopathy. This does not happen if you are healthy and taking additional protein. In fact, animal meats are more ammonia generating than plant-based or dairy-based protein and in those chronic liver failure patients with recurrent or persistent ammonia related brain dysfunction, the dietary advise is to limit animal meats and include more or switch to dairy+plant-based protein to keep ammonia generation low. Whey protein and scoops of additional whey protein to target protein requirement is perfectly safe and does not affect brain function or make the person slow like what is discussed in this video. Even advanced cirrhosis patients are supplemented with whey based protein formulations to target additional protein requirements and improve quality of life and immune functions Eg: and I hope we develop a law to deport brain dead misinformation peddling sub-standard "health influencers," like this guy in suit.

Caller: I have a gambling addiction. I haven’t filed taxes in five years. About five years ago, I had $200,000 in gambling winnings. After that, I haven’t filed anything. Dave Ramsey: Do you still have a career? Caller: I'm retired. Dave Ramsey: Okay. Do you have any money? Anything? Caller: I've got almost $10,000 in my savings account. Dave Ramsey: But you don't have a nest egg other than your pension. Caller: No. Dave Ramsey: Do you own a home? Caller: Yes. About $13,000 is remaining on the mortgage. Dave Ramsey: What is it worth? Caller: About $300,000. Dave Ramsey: And how much is your pension income? Caller: $95,000 a year. Dave Ramsey: That's good. Are you married? Caller: No. Dave Ramsey: Have you done something about the gambling addiction itself? Have you quit gambling? Caller: I have not. Dave Ramsey: Okay. So whatever we do is going to be a temporary fix because that is going to cause further problems. Agreed? Caller: Yes, absolutely. Dave Ramsey: What kind of gambling are you doing? Caller: Slot machines. Dave Ramsey: Are you lonely? Caller: Yeah. I've been single for quite a while. Dave Ramsey: How old are you? Caller: 61. Dave Ramsey: From working with people addicted to anything, I know that 100% of addicts eventually have financial problems. The addiction consumes every department of your life, including your financials. I can help you with the money parts of it, but it is a temporary fix until you deal with this. It's not bringing you joy. If you were my buddy sitting down over a cup of coffee, here is what I would tell you to do: Step 1: Get in touch with the Gamblers Anonymous folks in your area. Step 2: Find a good local church and start developing a personal relationship with a pastor who can walk with you. Step 3: Find a one-on-one professional counselor to help dig into what is really going on so you can get to the other side of this.

Protein catalyzes nearly every biochemical reaction in our bodies, making it indispensable for life. Every day, our bodies renew and replace around 300 grams of protein – the same weight as a can of Campbell's chicken soup. In today's FoundMyFitness episode, Dr. Luc van Loon joins me to shatter myths about protein intake and muscle protein synthesis. His research showed we can utilize up to 100 grams of protein in one meal, far more than previously thought. We also dive into how to distribute protein optimally across the day, the top sources, and strategies to ward off anabolic resistance—a state where muscles dial down their response to protein and exercise. Caller: I'm $451,000 in total debt. $252,000 of that is student loans, and I have 185 in a home loan. I only bring in $70,000 a year. After pension and all that stuff taken out, it's more like $40,000. I just don't know where to start. Dave Ramsey: What do you do for a living? Caller: Law enforcement. Dave Ramsey: How do you get $252,000 in student loan debt to be a policeman? Caller: I went to a private institution because my mother wanted me to go there. I went there originally for finance, didn't do good, so I switched my major to criminal justice, and then eventually went on for a master's as well, which didn't really help my employment eligibility as much as I thought it would. Dave Ramsey: Is your mother wealthy? Caller: No, neither my mother nor my father. I'm the first in my family to go to college. Dave Ramsey: Mathematically, we always look at the ratio of shovel to hole. The amount of hole you're in versus the shovel you have, your debt to your income. Are you married? Caller: No, I have a girlfriend who lives with me, and her daughter as well. Dave Ramsey: What is this house worth? Caller: I actually just purchased it off of a whim. My father passed away and it was the last conversation we had. It was across the street from his house, and he really wanted me to get it, so I jumped in with both feet to honor him. Dave Ramsey: So you didn't put anything down, so the house is worth $185,000? Caller: Yeah. Dave Ramsey: How old are you? Caller: I'm 31. Dave Ramsey: When are you planning on marrying this girl? Caller: She's currently in school to finish up for nurse practitioner. Sometime after that, hopefully after January. Dave Ramsey: Does she have student loan debt? Caller: She does. Dave Ramsey: How much? Caller: I'm not sure because she's not really on board with all this. I've tried to bring this up to her when listening to your show recently, and her thing is, "I'm too busy with school and don't want to worry about that right now." Dave Ramsey: I think you're the voice of experience that says it's a good idea to worry about it, otherwise you end up up a creek, which is where you are right now, and your paddle is real small. You told me in a five-minute conversation of two really stupid financial decisions you made from the influence of your mother and your father. You bought things you couldn't afford with money you didn't have, because of their influence. At 31 years old, you're going to have to decide to love your parents but no longer be influenced to do financial decisions based on their opinion, or even your perceived opinion of what your father would have thought. You cannot please these people anymore. They are breaking you. You make $70,000 a year and you're so far in debt you can't breathe. Buying a house you can't afford, going to a school you shouldn't have gone to and paying twice or three times as much for an education that you didn't even need to do the job you do. Am I wrong? Caller: Right. No, not at all. Dave Ramsey: Number one, that influence has to stop. Number two, you can't afford this house as a single guy making $70,000 a year.

“Dave Smith’s Morality Is Actually Evil” Dave Smith is evil. Or, if you prefer to be charitable, his morality is; and that makes his worldview, and how he acts in the world, evil in practice. Dave Smith would know that if he was actually Jewish. Judaism does not judge morality by thoughts or intentions but by actions… and by that standard, Dave Smith is evil. Dave Smith is one of the loudest online voices opposed to Israel. He uses social media—most notably Joe Rogan’s bullhorn—to spread that opposition. And not through facts, expertise, or serious moral reasoning: Dave Smith doesn’t debate with facts, as Coleman Hughes pointed out. Dave Smith doesn’t understand urban warfare, as John Spencer made obvious. And Dave Smith doesn’t have a clue how to actually combat terrorism or defeat genocidal enemies, as Dave Smith himself ineptly revealed on TRIGGERnometry elsewhere. But if Dave Smith were merely a liar, an ignoramus, or a clown, that would be fine. It’s 2026. Social media is full of clowns. What makes Dave Smith dangerous is something worse. Dave Smith is a coward. He claims to be “anti-war” as a philosophy. In reality, he’s anti-war because he lacks the moral courage to confront evil. His worldview is built on refusal: refusal of responsibility, refusal of force, refusal of hard moral choices. That cowardice becomes evil when applied to the real world. Dave Smith is so reflexively anti-war that he uses Israel as a cudgel against the Iranian people themselves; people actively risking their lives to overthrow one of the most brutal, murderous regimes on earth. Let’s be clear about that regime: •It murders its own Olympians •It murders women for dancing or showing their hair •It murders people for protesting those murders Even if Dave Smith were right about Israel—and he isn’t—it would still be a moral good to oppose the Iranian regime. But because his morality is not rooted in Western Enlightenment philosophy—responsibility, agency, just war, moral clarity—Dave Smith collapses everything into childish transitive logic: “Israel bad! Therefore anyone who supports Israel is immoral. And therefore anyone who supports the Iranian people is also immoral.” This isn’t moral seriousness. It’s intellectual sloth. Dave Smith lies about genocide in Israel. Then, because of his immoral framework, he turns 2+2 into BREAKFAST! His worldview doesn’t just misunderstand evil… it incentivizes it. He treats any military action against terrorists or murderous regimes as inherently immoral. He has no answer for how evil is defeated. No framework for stopping genocidal enemies. No solution beyond posturing. And that’s the point. A morality that refuses to confront evil is not neutral. A philosophy that allows evil to flourish is itself evil. If you allow evil to flourish—and do nothing to stop it—you are complicit. If this were merely cowardice, maybe Dave Smith wouldn’t be evil. But he goes further: he actively condemns those who take the fight to terrorists and tyrants. “I’m anti-war,” he says… while excusing those who start wars, butcher civilians, and rule through terror. That isn’t peace. That’s surrender dressed up as virtue. Dave Smith is an unserious thinker who relies on his audience being just as unserious: “Israel bad! Ergo people who support Israel and also support the Iranian people are bad!” Dave Smith thinks you are immoral for supporting Israel in its war to defeat genocidal terrorists. And he thinks you are immoral for supporting the Iranian people who are trying to defeat a murderous, oppressive theocratic regime. Dave Smith is a liar. Dave Smith is a coward. And Dave Smith believes that defeating evil—in the only way it has ever been defeated, through force when necessary—is itself evil. If you think defeating evil is wrong like Dave Smith, you’re evil. Welcome to the Dave Smith Comedy Tour: acting morally righteous while ensuring evil flourishes… and attacking those trying to stop it.

Gary Brecka Gets REKT… AGAIN @Garybrecka is the king of making claims with zero real evidence to back it up. He is now making claims about jose david because he sells his own protein bar so of course he has to go after a popular bar. Full disclosure, I am an investor in David Protein because I believe in the product and think it will be a great option for a lot of people. But do I think protein bars are better than real, minimally processed, single ingredient foods? No. Do I think a low calorie, high protein bar is a great option for people who might otherwise choose junk food when they are on the go? I absolutely do But let’s look at his false claims: Whey is inflammatory? No, in fact the data from numerous studies shows the opposite (PMID: 35706399) I don’t know what Gary means by ‘insulin confusion but I assume it’s the trope that artificial sweeteners cause an insulin response & affect glycemia but again, the research clearly shows that is not the case (PMID: 36839408) He says Palm Kernel Oil (PKO) is inflammatory & it promotes ‘cellular stress.’ How do you define cellular stress Gary? What objective measurement are you using to diagnose this? Oh wait, you made it up. There isn’t really much data on PKO, but it actually has more saturated fat in it than palm oil which is confusing because Gary says saturated fat is ok? EPG is what makes the product so low calorie by making the fat in the product not absorbable. It has NOT been banned in Europe. Any food ingredient needs to be approved by the EU & has to go through the bureaucratic procedures to do so. It has been approved by the FDA as generally recognized as safe & has numerous studies demonstrating safety (PMID: 25497999). Some will compare it to Olestra, but EPG is different. Olestra is solid at room temperature but liquid at body temp, hence the nasty side effects like anal leakage. EPG is solid at body temperature, so it passes through as normal stool Also taking this moment to point out Gary has agreed to & reneged on 2 different debates with me so any time he’s ready I’d love to have the debate on any of the claims I’ve called him out for
