David Bentley On Jack Grealish

The greatest trick ever played in football was Pep Guardiola convincing every other team to play the way his team does with inferior players. Grealish has never shown the player he was at Villa in 4 years at Man City.

Said this for years, Pep’s preordained footy is effective but boring as hell. He’s shackled a talent like Grealish. Football is an art, we need expressive players, 10s, chips, bits of skill. PSG & Barca gave us glimpses of this last year, hope the tide is turning 🙏🏼

@Joey7Barton But how do the mavericks rise to the top in today’s game? Drives me nuts when people moan about playing out from the back being an issue! Cole Palmer finds a way. Not playing controlled football does not automatically mean we’ll have more mavericks playing.

Every generation says this about football and how it was before. Quality of games is much higher than it was in the 90s and you don’t have to look that hard to find screamers and wonder goals. I do agree there are less players with flair especially in the prem

He's spot on. Every team wants to play tiki taka but ends up just being CBs and the 6 on the ball. The difference between elite Barca/Spain tiki taka and the modern day version is that the players on the ball were Xavi, iniesta, Messi etc way more often than mids/forwards now
