David Lee Roth - ‘Yankees Rose’!! Diamond Dave causing chaos while Steve Vai’s guitar shocks by talking in the songs intro. Was this track as good as Van Halen, back in the day!?

Yes. Did you know @stevevai has the only bilingual guitar. This one speaks English and Spanish!

@stevevai 😳😳

@Scottland2007 @stevevai Listen to his album called Passion & Warfare. You can thank me later. It’s other worldly. 🙌🎸

@punt_rd @stevevai Heard it. Bought it. Love it.

Listening to this again… His band was on par with VH. The only thing missing was Michael Anthony’s background vocals. Brings a new dimension to the Van Halen/Van Hagar debate…DLR drove VH.

Better than what the band did with Sammy Hagar, not nearly as good as classic Van Halen.

Loved David Lee Roth as a rocker, but man I couldn't watch his videos (except that California girls one) lest I feel I was wandering into gay culture.

'Yankee Rose', to me, was the best song on Sonrisa Salvaje. It rocked way better, to me, than anything on 1984. I loved Vai's work on the album. If Roth could have kept it together and built from this, the sky (not a scraper) could've been the limit.

I gotta at least give him credit: after leaving a band with one of the best guitarists in the world, he recruited: One of the best guitarists in the world One of the best drummers in the world One of the best bass players in the world. If you're going to sin, at least go big.

David Lee Roth was a showman …I’ve always enjoyed his performances…And this video is off the rails…

THIS is the origin for Dr Rockzo

I seen that first tour and vai and Billy Sheehan was off the charts!

Nothing compares to the Mighty Van Halen!!!

No it wasn’t as good… the cheesy guitar whistle and laughing is something I don’t think Ed would have ever done. Things like that were right up Dave’s alley, when he was in Van Halen not doubt Ed, Al and Mike kept silly ideas like that in check.

No. It was really good. It was catchy. The video was beyond hilarious in ways my mind still can't grasp. But this is NOT @VanHalen. No offense to Dave. But Eddie, Alex and Michael Anthony aren't up there. So nope.

This is a killer album for sure, and as much as I respect Vai’s playing, it always felt a bit “clinical” and sterile, especially when compared to the feel of Eddie’s playing.

A Fantastic return for Dave, with a mean crew behind him. 🤘🔊

I'd say it was as good as anything on 5150.

lol fuck right off with rothstein

Billy Sheehan is such an underrated bassist too!!!

I saw this tour as a kid at MSG, nothing tops og Van Halen but still damn good!

As good as vai is there isn’t a song of his that I can say grabs me like anything Eddie wrote he had huge amazing riffs that make people want to hear again and again, I couldn’t tell you one part of yankee rose that does anything for me

Nothing beats seeing this for the very first time on MTV in 1986.

That spandex hurts my eyes

As a kid, this was my first live concert. I sprinted to the front row and ended up on the rail, almost dead-center stage. David thought I was with the two girls next to me and came over to talk to me-- on mic- in front of the concert. A newspaper photographer photographed us.

Gimme a bottle of anything...and a glazed donut...to go..go..go..go

Oh my This was awesome back in the day I lived this album !

The hook in the chorus isnt as good as the best VH tracks….great song, but no Panama, Unchained, Aint Talkin About Love, etc

It’s not really “good” but it’s fun. It would be a tier 2 VH song…

To be honest there were quite a few good tracks on that album some better than the VH stuff... I get DLR not wanting to repeat himself but I would of enjoyed a few more albums of that caliber and style 🤷🏼♂️🤘🎸🔥

I don't care what anyone says Britney Spears rocks

Saw this band live and holy crap were they good.

vary nice quality my friend! (The video, the comment & the upload)

Thank you mate!

No. I was a Vh/DLR fan from the get go. Dave started becoming a cartoon character. Too over the top for me so I wasn't into his solo career. The only song I liked from that period really was Just Like Paradise. But I can't watch the vid without cringing.

Not even close. Its was pure gimmicky cheeseball DRL.

Don’t forget Billy Sheehan and Gregg Bissonette!

Big Trouble is my favorite song off this album
