If it’s so insignificant, in that it doesn’t have any effect on any decision or attitude to it or perceived conflict of interest, why have it? Why accept it? Why not pay for it? Because it is of high value & they ALL love it. It plays to their egos. QF know it & use it.

💯 So well said. Deep down he knows it’s a perk, a conflict of interest, but doesn’t want to let it go because he would then need to properly regulate Qantas.

Garbage by Longo. As an ASIC employee I along with others received a small gift (pen/stationery) from a retail super fund. After advice it was returned. Chairman’s lounge membership is definitely a conflict and undermines public confidence so should be refused.

This doesn’t pass any pub test. Qantas is under investigation for insider trading by the former chairman by the ACCC And ASIC made inquiries about that investigation.

why did the government give Qantas a gift of millions of dollars and not insist that it receive convertible preference shares or straight equity for its financial contribution?

These people are so used to being treated like lords and receiving “perks” that they cant see a conflict of interest when it slaps them in the face. Of course it’s a COI. They must decline their memberships.
