Waterworld was a production nightmare & at the time of its release, it was the most expensive film ever made- coming in with a budget of approximately $175 million back in 1995. The film eventually became profitable, but rewrites, hurricanes, and set issues pushed the film’s budget to new heights. The entire production/release of this film did a number on Costner’s reputation. With all that said, I enjoy this film& think the criticism of it was overdone.
