Today, I came to the Metropolitan Detention Center to exercise my constitutional rights as a Member of Congress to check on the safety and conditions of SEIU California President David Huerta, who was arrested by ICE. I pled with the National Guard, which was heavily armed, not to use their weapons against peaceful demonstrators who were simply exercising their rights to freedom of speech and protest. All people deserve to be treated with dignity and due process under the law. Peaceful, nonviolent demonstrations are critical to protecting our constitutional rights!

An important video, which has largely gone unnoticed so far in the media: A journalist affiliated with Julani regime explaining that negotiations with Kurdish fighters over the Aqtan prison in Raqqa, where high-ranking ISIS prisoners are being held, have failed because the Kurdish fighters demanded that the prison be taken over by a US-led international coalition. This was rejected by the Julani regime. The Julani regime wants to take over the prison without the participation of the US-led international coalition. They admit this in their own media outlets. The question is why would the Julani regime reject that if they are now part of the US-led International coalition against ISIS? Maybe so they can release them?

Kenyan Journalists working for international Media houses like Associated Press, Reuters & BBC Africa have requested a parliamentary committee investigation into allegations of labour exploitation and violations of their rights. In the statement read to parliament by Funyula MP Dr Wilberforce Oundo, International Media Houses have been accused of underpaying Kenyans, paying Kenyan freelancers as little as $150 while paying white freelancers up to $1500. The media houses have also been accused of paying Kenyan staff $1500 while paying White journalists up to $10,000 a month. Kenya currently hosts the highest number of foreign correspondents in Africa, as many African countries have stringent laws against foreigners freelancing in their countries. The international media houses have also been accused of bringing journalists from foreign countries to work in Kenya while refusing to hire Kenyans to the same jobs Kenyan journalists have also complained of being blacklisted from work by Bureau chiefs whenever they raise complaints on the issues to do with pay and racial discrimination.
