Today in Munich, Germany. An important day, and there will be new steps toward our shared security – that of Ukraine and Europe. On the agenda is the first joint Ukrainian-German drone production enterprise, as well as bilateral and multilateral meetings with partners. We need more of our joint production, more of our resilience, more coordination and effectiveness of our shared security architecture in Europe. The most significant thing we can achieve together is ending the war with a dignified peace and creating reliable security guarantees for Ukraine and for all of Europe – so that no one in Europe is afraid of being left without protection. Thank you to everyone who is helping!

We truly value that during Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Taoiseach Micheál Martin Micheál Martin is with us, with Ukraine, that you're standing with Ukraine, seeing for yourself what's happening, and understanding what we need to defend ourselves and protect people's lives. Today we discussed the threats and challenges we face right now, as we approach the fall, when Putin is preparing new attacks against Ukraine, additional mobilization in Russia, and a further expansion of the war. It's important that today we have a decision on the European Union's new sanctions package against Russia. And I'm grateful to every European leader who made this possible. This is already the 21st package, and today Micheál assured me that he will work toward the 22nd. Now, during Ireland's Presidency of the EU, there are also decisions on the clusters for Ukraine. Two clusters have already been opened, and I am grateful for the readiness to keep supporting this work. It's very important that Ireland, as the country holding the Presidency, provides leadership, and that Ukraine can count on opening the remaining clusters. I thank Ireland and all our partners across Europe, in America, and around the world for their tangible support – and for a new support package from Ireland. It makes a difference. I thank all the people of Ireland for caring.

I had a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the European Council meeting today in Brussels. I thanked Emmanuel for his clear and principled stance in support of Ukraine and the need for new, more substantial steps to protect our entire Europe—our peoples, our institutions, and our European way of life. We discussed the upcoming meeting on March 11 at the level of military representatives of the countries willing to put in greater efforts to ensure reliable security in the context of ending this war. We coordinated our positions and next steps. We have an absolutely clear shared vision that real and lasting peace is possible through cooperation between Ukraine, all of Europe, and the United States. The war must end as soon as possible.

Today, Ukraine marks the 975th anniversary of one of our most important historic landmarks, a symbol of our enduring statehood and a center of early Christianity in Europe — the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. A thousand years ago, Kyiv was a gateway through which Christian civilization reached westward across the continent. This is why we call our path towards EU membership the restoration of our place in the European family. Today, we are a gatekeeper again. We are holding the line to keep the gates of threat to the rest of Europe closed. When Russia lies about “its thousand-year history,” it is simply trying to steal our heritage because it failed to develop its own. Its national myth is built on claiming the histories and identities of its neighbors as its own. Whatever Russia does, we have our agenda. And our history. And our Kyiv Pechersk Lavra — one that nobody can either steal or destroy. And today, on the Lavra’s 975th anniversary, a symbolic new tradition was born — a joint ringing of the bells, connecting its centuries-old history with the journey toward its millennium.

We discussed further support for Ukraine with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Lars Løkke Rasmussen. Continued defense assistance for Ukraine, Denmark’s participation in the PURL initiative, joint weapons production, and support for Ukraine on its path to EU membership were among the key issues. We also spoke about Russia’s drone attack on Poland. The best response to aggression must be the joint strengthening of air defense and the creation of a reliable air shield over Europe. We must also increase sanctions pressure on Russia. We expect the 19th package of EU sanctions to be adopted as soon as possible. We have very good relations with Denmark, and we greatly value the strong support that Ukraine and our people receive from friends like Denmark. Thank you.

I spoke about our diplomatic efforts to achieve a reliable peace, and we discussed all current issues related to our country’s European integration. We expect these funds to start working for our collective security as soon as possible.
