"Was the undressing necessary to the plot?" Yes

I can only kill this shark by getting naked

@YouSceneThis During Deep Blue Sea (1999), Samuel L. Jackson & even the VFX team thought the speech was so bad that Jackson asked, “Why don’t you just kill me?” Director changed the scene after poor test screenings, accidentally creating one of horror’s greatest deaths.

Honestly... I understand why they cut to this angle randomly.

@YouSceneThis Am still trying to figure out the motive of undressing first. Was it really necessary ?

@YouSceneThis Why does she need to remove her clothes to do that?

@YouSceneThis Ok - why did she need to disrobe for that?

@YouSceneThis Sexy woman but dumb scene. She was wearing shoes which would remove any need for her to protect her feet from electrocution

@YouSceneThis Her wetsuit was too wet. She mitigated her chances of electrocution, by its removal.

@YouSceneThis For those wondering why she had to strip, the shark was male and got distracted staring at her boobs. That's why she got it with the electric shock.

She took the wetsuit off for electrical safety… but kept the shoes on 😂 90s logic hits different 💀

@YouSceneThis I wanted her to live. The test screening audience were idiots. Yeah, she created the monster sharks, but still.... You don't kill the hot chick.

@YouSceneThis Well... how else are you supposed to attract a horny shark?!

@YouSceneThis she, saffron burrows, was 27 in that movie - now she's a 53-year-old bisexual with a non-binary 13-year-old kid... go figure.

@YouSceneThis Saffron Burrows in that scene is the reason a lot of us watched this movie multiple times as teens

@YouSceneThis Unless she was ready for a date, women never wear matching color underwear😏

@YouSceneThis The rubber suit is non-conducive. So in theory, it would protect her from electric shock.

@YouSceneThis Pra não levar choque elétrico da água, a borracha da roupa bloqueia a eletrecidade

@YouSceneThis She took off her rubber wetsuit to stand on it, so she wouldn't get electrocuted. Not saying that's a great idea, but that was the idea.

@YouSceneThis Saw this in the theaters and some guy yelled “EW!!” when she took off her wetsuit. Had everyone cracking up for the rest of the scene

@YouSceneThis It actually does make sense. She was about to electrify the water and wanted as much padding between her and the surface she was standing on. Her shoes are wet so she wanted to take extra precaution.

@YouSceneThis Rubber wetsuit. She is standing on top of it to act as an insulator from the electricity.

@YouSceneThis I’m not complaining but what was the strategic advantage of taking off her clothes lol

@YouSceneThis i think it’s so that she steps on the neoprene to isolate herself from the electrocution – which wouldn’t have done much IRL because she’s completely wet anyway

@YouSceneThis 100% they started with this scene and worked out the rest of the movie backward
