Deepak Mhaskey takes charge as BJP’s new IT Cell head, calling it a “huge responsibility.” He’ll need to prioritise YouTube. Meta’s algorithm has long limited right-leaning political reach — they even briefly removed PM Modi’s recent viral video.

The battle for women vote has found a new leash of life after Rahul Gandhi spoke of fighting Shakti in Hindu dharma. Despite Congress’s several attempts to explain what Rahul Gandhi meant, the BJP charge, led by none other than Prime Minister Modi has been unrelenting. The BJP alleged that Rahul Gandhi is not just anti-Hindu but also a misogynist. Not wanting to keep Rahul’s comments limited to the divine form of Shakti alone, the Prime Minister linked it to Nari Shakti and Bharat Mata. Today, stepping up the attack, the BJP ensured that the PM was welcomed by 11 Shakti Ammas in the Salem rally. On the face of it, it may appear mere symbolism but the political messaging can’t be overlooked. The PM has quickly positioned himself as one who revers and has worked for the empowerment of Nari Shakti as opposed to the Congress, led by Rahul Gandhi, who wants to fight Shakti. Has the Congress played into the hands of BJP, once again? After all, the PM has assiduously nurtured the women vote block. Several of his social welfare programs, from Aawas to Ujjwala to Sauchalay, are all about women empowerment. The PM has specifically focused on pushing more women to be entrepreneurs. His Lakhpati Didi is an ambitious program. Besides, the Govt never tires recounting that 50% of all beneficiaries, across programs, are women. Legislating on women’s reservation bill or praising women scientists for the success of Chandrayaan3, have all been part of PM Modi’s political pitch. Given the context, it would be interesting to see how the fight for women’s vote shapes up in the days ahead. For now, the BJP and the PM have grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Why I feel Annamalai will not be replaced as TN State President! K.Annamalai There are rumors floating around that Annamalai is getting replaced. The entire BJP support system is in panic mode since yesterday raising its concerns. Here are my thoughts! Firstly, there is immense political equity built around ‘Brand Annamalai’ as BJP is invested big time in him. Otherwise, En Mann En Makkal would never have happened. Amit Shah inaugurated it and PM Modi concluded it. That is a HUGE acknowledgment of the kind of political dividends they expect from Annamalai in future. Secondly, PM Modi likes Annamalai as he compares Annamalai to himself. A young, bold and daring political personality. That is why, even when BJP did not win a single seat, PM Modi applauded Annamalai in the Parliament Central Hall, by saying, ‘BJP has grown in Tamil Nadu’. Amit Shah may have a differing opinion on Annamalai, but PM Modi’s word is FINAL. Annamalai has also become flexible and accommodative based on his recent interviews. Thirdly, Modi - Amit Shah duo knows that Annamalai has by far been the best state president in TN. He has single handedly transcended the party from NOTA challenger to a game changer. They do understand and acknowledge Annamalai’s achievements that are unmatched as below! Annamalai single handedly achieved BJP’s growth of 207.1% in 5 years from 2019 to 2024. The highest by any party in this time frame! Annamalai made BJP contest in 19 seats. Highest ever! Annamalai made BJP get 12% votes. Highest ever! Annamalai made BJP get double digit votes. First time ever! Finally, Modi Amit Shah duo knows more than anyone that, for the above reasons, it will he sheer stupidity to replace Annamalai. Because 80% of BJP supporters in Tamil Nadu are Annamalai supporters and there is no BJP in Tamil Nadu without Annamalai. They know, if this happens, the incoming president will take BJP back to ‘I am going to scratch the surface’ scenario. Annamalai has a tremendous role to play in 2026 and I feel he will be left uninhibited! These are my thoughts! But if the opposite happens and if Annamalai is replaced, it will be political suicide for BJP and the party will get buried for good in Tamil Nadu. Even BJP supporters will ditch and disown the party. PM Modi and HM Shah are too smart to give such details a miss just to form an alliance for short term dividends! The Circle (2000, Panahi)/ Iran "Political movies have limited time. After that time, it doesn’t say anything anymore. But if the whole thing is said in an artistic way, then it doesn’t have an expiration date." --- Jafar Panahi Full Excerpt: "Interviewer: The subject matter of 'The Circle' (2000) is controversial. You mentioned that the film is still banned in Iran. In fact, when I was watching the film, I realized that through the characters, there’s a lot of fear about the system, the establishment, the police. The women can’t smoke; they have to wear the chador; they seem to want to hide every time. This is all very clear from watching the film. Did you deliberately want to make a statement about the political situation in Iran? Panahi: I have to tell you again that I’m not a political person. I don’t like political movies. But I take every opportunity to comment on the social issues. I talk about the current issues. To me it’s not important what is the reason for what has happened. Whether it’s political reasons or geographical reasons: these are not important—but the condition, the social issues. It is important to me to talk about the plight of humanity at that time. I don’t want to give a political view, or start a political war. I think that the artist should rise above this. Political movies have limited time. After that time, it doesn’t say anything anymore. But if the whole thing is said in an artistic way, then it doesn’t have an expiration date. So it doesn’t really serve a political purpose. Then it can be everlasting, for always, and it could be for anywhere. But I know that politically, with the film authorities, with any kind of film that has some political background in it, they would take issue with it. And for this reason, that is what the problem is. Interviewer: Still, your film makes a very strong statement about the problems that women face in Iran. Panahi: Yes, I agree with that. Interviewer: So that is humanitarian, of course, but it’s also political. Panahi: Yes, I agree with that. It has the elements. It all depends on how you look at it. If a person has only political views, then he will only see the political. But if you are a poet or an artist, then you see other things as well in the movie. If you are a socialist, you see political or economic or whatever different points of view. You mustn’t look at a film with only one point of view. If you want to see 'The Circle' (2000) as political, then it is one of the most political movies in Iran. By political, I mean partisan politics. But even the police, I didn’t want to show them as bad. In the first instance, you are afraid of the police. Because you are looking at them from the point of view of someone who is now in prison. And normally you see him in a long shot, but when they come nearer and you see them in a medium shot, you can see their human faces. Then it comes down to, “Do you need any help?” But he goes back again and becomes frightening. If I were being political, then I would always show the police as dangerous or bad persons." (Jafar Panahi's interview with Stephen Teo, Senses of Cinema, 2001)
