The case involving Matthew VanDyke and a Ukrainian group, mentioned in the NIA’s latest court filing, is the most concrete part of this story. They are accused of using the Mizoram corridor to train ethnic armed groups in Myanmar in FPV drone warfare. Investigators now reportedly link the same network to a kamikaze drone attack on a civilian ATR-72 at Myitkyina Airport in February 2026. This is a genuine security concern for India. Similar drone tactics have already been seen in Manipur. An open border and easily transferred technology create a real risk of spillover. That concern alone is not a conspiracy theory. VanDyke’s organisation has for years trained anti-junta and anti-dictatorship groups in several countries. Incidents linked to Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and the Northeast appear to point to a deeper role for the United States and the alleged Deep State. What is needed is strict enforcement of Restricted Area Permits and better monitoring of tourists travelling to the Northeast on tourist visas. Border weaknesses are a real security problem, even if the broader strategic narrative remains a matter of debate.
