Snakes mostly bite when threathened, provoked or cornered, most species don't waste their venom. In Nigeria there's a snake called "Ajuani" & it's believed to be harmless until its tail are touched; But another reason why snakes mightn't bite is if they're worshipped or seen as a diety.
